If you loved the other movies, you’ll love this too.
Insert obligatory disclaimer here: I am not a fan of anything Twilight. I’ve read approximately 1.2 of the books and watched most of the first movie and that’s it.
As a non-fan, the movie bored me a bit. It seemed like the first half was mostly devoted to the wedding and honeymoon of Edward and Bella. By the time they got to the action, I had already checked out of the story. There was very little exposition about events that took place in the previous movies so anyone new to the party is likely to be confused. But who am I kidding? You’ve probably already seen it so no need for me to rehash everything. With that in mind, here are some of my completely random observations:
- The wedding is total Edward and Bella shipper porn
- Why does the vampire makeup have to make such naturally pretty people look so ghastly? Peter Facinelli is a SEXY man but you would not know it from this movie
- The werewolves look oddly cute when in wolf form
- The special effects of pregnant Bella getting sicker and thinner were amazing. It was very believable and gross
I did watch the DVD with a friend who has read and enjoyed all the books and she assured me the writer did an excellent job of adapting the book to a movie format.
Let’s be honest, at this stage, either you’re a Twilight fan or you’re not. If you’re not, move right along, this DVD is not for you. If you are, whether you’re Team Edward (congratulations!) or Team Jacob (ooh, sorry), there’s something here you’ll love.
Let’s get to the good stuff:
Special Features:
- 6 part making of documentary — There’s a LOT of great detail in this behind the scenes feature, everything from Carolina Herrera designing Bella’s wedding dress to the story of how the cast and crew were stuck huddled together on the Brazilian island set overnight due to a storm. Cast interviews and special effects planning info complete the package.
- Edward & Bella’s Wedding Diary — Your standard wedding video package only with the added bonus of best wishes from golden-eyed vampires. There’s a lot of nice wedding porn here too.
- Jacob’s Destiny — This one goes into detail about Jacob’s emotional arc for the movie. Taylor Lautner comes across very charming in his interviews. If you were to force me to choose, I’d be Team Jacob.
- Audio Commentary with director Bill Condon — Insight into all the logic and decision making that went into putting this film together.
- Fast Forward Edward or Jacob — Yep, it’s just like it sounds. Skip all the boring stuff and fast forward to the scenes with your favorite hot supernatural creature!
The special features are fine and dandy and will keep any dedicated fan happy until the uberset of all the movies is released, but there is one thing missing I would’ve like to have seen here and that’s extra footage or maybe an unrated version. I’m specifically thinking that there are probably some extra sexy honeymoon scenes or maybe some more gruesome action from the birth that fans would enjoy seeing. Hopefully they get around to that in the expected omnibus.

As a non-fan…all of the Twilight movies have bored me…they have been rental only and only when I was desperate and couldn’t find a better movie to watch because I had already watched all the other new releases…this one will be the same.

I still think the scene of their bedroom the morning after their honeymoon was hysterical: feathers everywhere, broken headboard – I just laughed now thinking about it again.
Like Sam said – at this point either you are a fan or not (or like me a hostage to two females that are fans) and will either love the movie or hate it accordingly.
