Jackson Ponders “Fringe” Future

Jackson Ponders “Fringe” Future

January 9, 2012 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

The future isn’t looking bright for Fringe. Earlier we brought you news that Fox’s Kevin Reilly said while he loves the show, it’s losing money.   And while Fox hasn’t made a decision on a fifth season, odds are pretty long that we’ll get another season.

Now, actor Joshua Jackson who plays Peter Bishop on the show has responded to the comments.

“He could not have been more clear,” Jackson says.  “He’s not running a charitable foundation. And if the show is really not making money [then that should be it]. But the important thing to me is that our writers are given a chance to finish the show, because it’s a serialized show.”

Thankfully it appears Reilly agrees.

“I don’t want it to go out with a whimper,” Reilly says.  “We don’t want to fumble the ball at the 5-yard line. If it ends up being the last show, we’ll end up doing it right.”

I will openly weep when we lose Fringe. It will be some comfort if they end the show in the apocalyptic way that it needs to go out on. It still saddens me to no end that we can’t keep something this brilliant on the air.

I know it’s the network’s love for the show and the dedication of some die-hards that have given us four seasons. While I can rationalize and point out that fours years is a pretty good run for a show, my inner child preparing to throw an epic tantrum. Here’s to hope for a fifth season!

I actually just started to get into the show this season and caught up with all the episodes in a two week binge. I’ll be sad to see it go because I just love the characters. I understand the business side of things and won’t begrudge Fox their decision too much as long as they give the show runners enough warning so they can end things in a satisfying manner.

Here’s hoping that they rip open the fabric of space time when they end it.
