Alison Bechdel’s Are You My Mother? will receive a 100,000 copy first printing.
The follow-up to the bestselling Fun Home will debut with an unusually large print run for a graphic novel, reports Publishers Weekly.
Are You My Mother? deals with the cartoonist’s relationship with her mother in the same way that Fun Home focused on her father.
“Now, a second thrilling tale of filial sleuthery, this time about her mother: voracious reader, music lover, passionate amateur actor,” says the publisher’s blurb about the upcoming release. “Also a woman, unhappily married to a closeted gay man, whose artistic aspirations simmered under the surface of Bechdel’s childhood… and who stopped touching or kissing her daughter goodnight, forever, when she was seven.”
The print run is one of the largest ever produced for a graphic novel.
