Ford Joins “Game”

Ford Joins “Game”

December 22, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

Harrison Ford is ready to play a game.  Ford has officially signed on to be part of the upcoming big-screen version of Ender’s Game.

Ford will play the “Commander of Training for the International Fleet,” heading the academy. He spots Ender’s potential and pushes him to be the ruthless annihilator the commander so desperately needs him to be.

Hugo actor Asa Butterfield is starring in the lead role (Hailee Steinfeld and Ben Kingsley are also on board), set in a future where the Earth is under attack by an insect-like race and mankind has created a battle school to train fighting forces. In this environment enters Ender Wiggin (Butterfield), a kid who is tormented by bullies and an older brother but proves to be a master at a three-dimensional, zero-gravity laser tag-like game. That sets him on a path as a possible savior of the human race.

Abigail Breslin is slated to play Valentine. Fine. She’s 15, at least she close to the right age.

Hailee Steinfeld is slated to play Petra Arkanian. Cool. She was amazing in ‘True Grit’ and she will make Petra (one of my favorite characters next to Bean) great. However, Petra is Armenian in the books. All throughout the Shadow series, being Armenian is very important. So, they couldn’t find an Armenian child actor (that’s not a Krap-dashian)? Hailee is of Filipino descent.

I hope they cast Cliff Curtis as Mazer Rackman, who like Mazer is actually Maori!

Why is Card giving into the studios after all these years and letting them make Ender a teenager?
