After we get the next Doctor Who holiday special, fans will be in for a long wait until the next new episode.
In the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, show runner Steven Moffat confirmed we won’t see new episodes until at least August of next year.
“Doctor Whoin the summer? All that running down tunnels, with torches, and the sunlight streaming through your windows and bleaching out the screen? All those barbecues and children playing outside, while on the telly there are green monsters seething in their CGI-enhanced lairs? It’s just not right is it? Be honest,” Moffat says.”For me, as a kid, when the afternoon got darker and there was a thrill of cold in the air, I knew that even though summer was over, the TARDIS was coming back! So yes, that’s part of the plan, that’s part of the reason for this little delay. But it’s not the whole story.”
So it looks like a bit of a wait, but it should be worth it.
I agree with the move. Let’s keep it in the fall!
I’d rather have quality programming than quantity – give them time to write the stories rather than rush them before they are ready.
OK… Moffat does understand that Doctor Who is a world wide phenomenon, right? I mean, the demands for more should weigh in with the decision.
On the other hand… last season seemed a bit slap-dash for a large portion of it, so this might be a good thing indeed.
I wish we could have 25 episodes of Doctor Who, a year !!
But as that will never happen to due to costs and such,
waiting to the fall is not a bad plan.
I might hazard a guess that they are working on phenomenal special effects and crappy economy kicked in to slow things. Story development may be only part of the delay. I’ll be looking forward to it!
It’s more likely to be the fact that the BBC will be spending a Metric Buttload of money covering the Olympics next summer…
As much as I would enjoy seeing Dr. Who come back earlier, I would rather wait for the series to come back in August it if would mean NOT repeating the travesty which was this last season batch of episodes. With the exception of just a few I found last season to be absolutely terrible, so if the delay in the return of Who means an improvement in the direction of the series then I’ll excitedly wait for that day when I turn on the TV and I hear that opening theme knowing that one of my favorite TV shows of all time is back to wow and dazzle me just as it did when I was growing up in the 70s…
