Tovey Leaves “Human”

Tovey Leaves “Human”

November 13, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 8 Comments

Actor Russell Tovey has parted ways with the British genre hit Being Human.

The actor broke the news via Twitter and the UK Guardian on Friday. Tovey played George the werewolf on the series.

The actor cited the exit of actor Aidan Turner and his character, the vampire Mitchell, as the probable catalyst for his departure.

“Well, I’ve actually left Being Human but no one [outside of the show] knows yet,” he says, bursting our bubble. The news will come as a shock to fans, still reeling from Aidan Turner’s exit as his character, Mitchell the vampire, was killed off by George in the season three finale. “Aidan’s left to film The Hobbitin New Zealand [with Peter Jackson] and going on without him on this fourth series felt strange,” says Tovey by way of explanation. But for such a huge sci fi-ish hit on both sides of the Atlantic, doesn’t having only one of the original cast members left put the show in major jeopardy?,” he says.

“No, with Being Human the story can definitely go on and on,” Tovey insists. “Toby [Whithouse, the writer] still runs it and they can do all sorts … add giants and robots!”

Well this news really sucks. First Turner & now Tovey. I’m glad the American version isn’t all that terrible to watch. Tovey is right, now that he has left too, what’s left, a female werewolf and shapeshifters (been done on True Blood already)? If there is a next season I’ll watch just to see where Whithouse takes the show with it’s two main characters gone.

To be honest, the only reason I watched the British version was for Nina. She’s incredibly hot! Other than that, I’m really not that interested. George and Mitchell were just too whiny for me.

I would think that would do the show in…bad enough losing one of the leads but two?…don’t see how they could continue.

It’s weird… in the UK version, I liked Werewolf George the least, but in the US version, I like Werewolf Josh the most.

I do wonder if George will get his exit onscreen or off… either way, losing two leads with none of the secondary characters having been primed to step up feels weird, and I do wonder how they’ll be able to pull off something to keep the feel of the show despite losing them.

I’m also still curious to see how closely the American version’s storyline parallels with the UK version for the upcoming seasons.

My wife says the same thing. She likes the opposite characters on the different shows. As for the different versions, I’m curious how they will rewrite the Americanized versions as it seems with the first season, they mashed up a lot of the plot lines that during the season or at least did things out of order to a degree.

Hang on, did he leave before or after they made the fourth series?
