While Universal has parted ways with several other projects in recent weeks, the studio is still determined to make the big-screen version of Asteroids work.
Variety reports the studio has asked writer Evan Spiliotopoulos to re-write the script.
Matt Lopez wrote the original draft of the project, which is based on the popular video arcade game released in 1979 by Atari.
Spiliotopoulos rewrote Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz script for Ouija and penned the script for Wanted 2 as well as working on Snow White and the Huntsman.

How hard is it to come up with a story? The game was just about a spaceship shooting at asteroids.
bbbbut…, you have to cater to the “modern” audience and add teenage angst, a father searching for his lost daughter, lots of explosions, oh yeah, and vampires. 😛
