According to Nymag Ben Affleck has signed on as director for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Stand.”
The King classic, which was once done as a mini series for television will be a mega-budget three picture deal for Warner Bros.
Affleck beat out two other major directors, David Yates of Harry Potter fame and Oscar winning director Ron Howard. Directing is nothing new for the writer/actor/producer, having sat center seat on “The Town” and “Gone Baby Gone.”. The Academy Award winning writer (“Good Will Hunting”) will also be adapting the script from King’s work for the gig.

This could go either way.
Well at least they’re planning on breaking it up into more than 1 movie. They could never do it justice in a single film. This is what worries me for the film adaptation of Justin Cronin’s The Passage.
If it’s PG-13, it’ll die the way of most book-to-film adaptations: dumbed down in search of a wider viewing audience. Hmm… maybe we can make an animated version so we can get the little kids demographic!
Well, the TV miniseries was excellent, and that had to be toned down.
i love the miniseries (yep.. got it on dvd), but the book is just amazing. it really could go either way.
