MacFarlane Ready For “Family Guy” To End

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane says he secretly hoped that Family Guy would only run seven seasons.   Calling seven seasons a good run for any show, MacFarlane tells the Hollywood Reporter he thinks the show should have wrapped it up before the tenth season debuted earlier this year.

“I talk to the fans and in a way I’m kind of secretly hoping for them to say we’re done with it. There are plenty of people who say the show is kind of over the hill… but still the vast majority go pale in the face when I mention the possibility,” he says.

But that wouldn’t be the end of the Griffith family.  MacFarlane says he’d like to see the series retire from TV and do a movie every couple of years.

“Creatively, that would be the way to do it for me. Do a really fantastic final episode while the show is still strong,” he says.

It’s not as if MacFarlane doesn’t have a lot on his plate right now.  He does acknowledge that part of what keeps him from pulling the plug on Family Guy is all the people who work with him on the show.

And in the future, he’s got a reboot of the Flintstones.  He says that the series will get a few updates technology wise but that it will, overall, still be the same classic series that has endured for years in syndication.

As for a dream project, MacFarlane says he’d love the chance to get the keys to a new Star Trek television project.

“But I’d love to see that franchise revived for television in the way that it was in the 1990s: very thoughtful, smartly written stories that transcend the science fiction audience,” he says.
