Looks like the Lone Ranger won’t ride off into the sunset just yet.
Thanks to pay cuts by Johnny Deep and director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the film’s budget has been trimmed from $250 million to $215 million. According to Deadline that’s enough for Disney to put the film back into production again.

Given what I’ve heard about the script I’m wondering if I should be wishing that they hadn’t done that…
Great. Now what, will Tonto and the Lone Ranger be Life partners in this version?
“Hiyo Silver and away”
Now that I’ve had a nap and had time to think about it, I can see how they CAN do it right. Similar to the way they redid Wild Wild West. It was different but stayed close to the original intent of the show. Yes, it was updated and made current with steam puke tech and what not, but the underlying feel of the movie was close to the T.V. show considering the change in tastes of the general public over the years. I hope the writers and director can take these into their plan when they produce this movie. To “Pirate” it up in the same vane they did the recent Disney twists would be, in my opinion, a disaster. The Lone Ranger is kind of an American Icon. I’m 41 and remember watching the reruns growing up but even my 7 year old son knows who he was and what he stood for.
I never liked the Lone Ranger. He was just a Zorro rip-off with a gun instead of a sword. (And yes, Zorro did come first). With Depp as Tonto though, it may just be interesting enough for me to give it a try.
