It’s not a good day for news on long-running television series.
First we get news that The Simpsons could be headed for retirement after this season.
Now comes news that conversations for more Dexter have stalled.
Deadline reports a stalemate between series star Michael C. Hall and cable outlet Showtime over the future of the show. Hall’s contract expires after the current sixth season and the two were trying to work out a deal to bring him back for more.
According to reports, Showtime is offering Hall $20 million for two more seasons and Hall is asking for $24 million for two more years.
Sources indicate that the network brass remain hopeful about reaching a deal, with signing Hall for one more season vs. two also an option.
Getting Dexter back could be a priority for Showtime. The sixth season premiere delivered 2.2 million viewers and was up 24% from last year’s season premiere.
