If you’ve got a Zune, we’ve got some bad news for you. Microsoft has pulled the plug on the audio player.
The company declared the line dead this week. The last new Zune product was produced two years ago.
The Zune was a distant second to the iPod in the portable audio content battle. Microsoft decided to focus on making Windows Phones better rather than rekindling the Zune brand.
The company’s product support page now reads, “We recently announced that, going forward, Windows Phone will be the focus of our mobile music and video strategy, and that we will no longer be producing Zune players.”

Probably a good choice, but it is a little disappointing that the only choice is to have their phone to get music. Oh well, less competition for the iPod Touch I guess.

maybe if they would have advertised that zunes had a bigger storage capacity, and a bigger screen for watching videos, and some better support, they could have sold more devices, but then again, the recession probably screwed them too.

They just don’t know how to advertise their product. I’ve been a Windows Mobile user for about the past 13 years roughly and only recently moved up from a WM6.5 phone to a Windows Phone 7. It’s a really well made and thought out device, but, it suffers from lack of advertising and not being a known platform. The Zune player is part of the WP7 devices now. It uses the Zune program to sync the music and Podcasts like Slice that I listen to and I’ve never owned a iPod. I’m not really an fanboy for the platform, but I think it’s got a lot of potential. If Microsoft actually does put forth some effort, then perhaps it will become something. If not, there’s always another new Google Droid out there from week to week.
