A month in and the DC relaunch is a success–well, at least monetarily.
The comic book publisher is selling more issues since it rebooted the entire line of comics, reports the New York Times. The first issue of the new Justice League sold out quickly and has gone back for reprints. The first issue sold 200,000 copies as compared to 46,000 copies for an issue before the reboot.
Nine other series, including Action Comics, Batgirl and the Flash, have doubled average sales, selling more than 100,000 copies, the Times reports. That benchmark had not been reached in several years.
DC Comics has also been offering its titles digitally the same day they are released in stores, but according to Brian Hibbs, who owns Comix Experience in San Francisco, that won’t be a detriment. “I’m pleasantly surprised by how enthusiastic the demand for print copies has been,” he told the Times.
Sales figures for the digital comics have not yet been released.
Of course, this is only the first month of the relaunch. And while sales may be up, it will remain to be seen if they stay at that higher level.
There was also some backlash last week over several of the first issues from fans. How long those fans stick with the relaunch remains to be seen as well.
