CBS has a new genre-related show from “Lost,” “Fringe” and “Star Trek” boss man J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan, best known for his mind-blowing film journey called “Memento,” as well as the screenwriter for “The Dark Knight” and “The Prestige.” The show stars Emmy winner Michael Emerson (“Lost”) and big screen box office draw James Caviezel.
You have got to be asking yourself, “with a cast and crew like that how could this show be anything but great?” I have to answer, it is and I believe CBS has a real hit on their hands with this one.
The weekly scenarios center on the characters of Reese, played by Caviezel, a down-and-out, off-the-grid ex-CIA/Special Forces agent and Emerson’s billionaire software guru named Mr. Finch. They utilize a system created by Finch for Homeland Security after the attacks on 9/11. However, instead of using the highly secretive system to spy on the rest of humanity Reese and Finch take the information acquired to covertly work outside the law to uncover crime and mysterious events before they occur. They can literally change the course of an individual’s life without any of the individuals having knowledge of what has taken place. Those affected by their actions, are never aware of their presence or intervention.
If you are tempted to compare “Person of Interest” with the film “Minority Report” you would be doing Abrams’ and Nolan’s creation a great disservice. “Person of Interest” is uniquely its own animal and shows what the right motivation, unlimited resources, and combat expertise can accomplish when married to state-of-the-art surveillance. Reese and Finch raise the art of vigilante justice to a new level.
“Person of Interest” airs on CBS every Thursday night 9/8C and is well worth the watch and a spot in your DVR queue.
I couldn’t agree more. I was a little wary watching it due to some of the hype and not wanting to be disappointed. Not a chance. Michael Emerson is brilliant, but Jim Caviezel is an absolute bad ass. If the series can maintain the quality of performances and visuals of the first episode, this will be my absolute favorite new show of the year hands down!

I see where you are going but I need 3 episodes excluding the pilot (s1 e1) to say I am watching live every week; it’s just the way I am.
I watched pilot twice; 1st time viewing it I wondered if it would become a train wreck. 2nd viewing I started to think, “It may have legs if the average drama viewers (not SciFi genre folks) don’t tune out because they cannot ‘get it’.” — or start saying “Minority Report” rip-off. It is not that movie’s procedural series!
I spoke with my mother the other day and she liked it more than I did, so that’s probably a good sign that it can get a general audience.
Minority Report? Who makes that comparison? Sounds more like The Adjustment Bureau.

I believe their MR comparison is unfounded and is a slap in the face to the show which is much more interesting and satisfying than that film and has nothing to do with it or the book it was loosely based on.

@Sam – that seems crazy to me. I wouldn’t have thought Minority Report at all.
I think it will be a great show, however I also need a couple more episodes to see how they develop these two characters.
