Terra Nova makes its debut Monday night at 8 p.m. EST on Fox. Is the show worth tuning in for?
The Hollywood Reporter has weighed in with their review of the show.
It might be impossible for Fox’s new drama series Terra Nova – one of the most hyped and anticipated of the fall – to either meet expectations or, more damning, its hoped-for Nielsen ceiling, but the show has a lot to get fans excited about. It’s ambitious in scope, has a likable, far-ranging cast and appears to be planting enough storylines to lure in fans who are having Lost withdrawal….
The series is set in the year 2149 and the world is suffering from overpopulation and an environmental disaster. People need help breathing. The air is choked with blackness. Plant and animal life are nearly extinct. Buildings are soot-stained. The government is brutally enforcing a two-child policy for every family. The Terra Nova scenes here have a faint Blade Runner quality to them.
Right there, in those moments, is a series that a lot of people would want to watch. But the producers have chosen a different course.
See, the hook in Terra Nova is that desperate scientists discovered a “fracture in time,” a portal to the past. This is a tricky element to the series, but the main idea is that nine expeditions have so far been sent back in time – 85 million years in the past, to be precise – to what is being described as Terra Nova, a new civilization that just might be able to save the current one.

Well, I watched the pilot. Can’t say that I thought it was terribly good. The dinos don’t look convincing to me – they seem too cartoon-like. It was far from the worst show I’ve ever seen, but it didn’t have anything I found terribly interesting or compelling. I’ll view an episode or two more to see if it turns into anything, but I’m not holding out much hope.

Hi
Have to agree with Orvang. Saw the first Ep last night – seems like a strange merge with Avatar(military lead role), Earth 2 and a touch of Lost. Full of predictable characters – the worst has to be the angst ridden son who I hope is quickly disposed of as dino fodder.
Has potential – I will apply the 3-5 episode allowance to gain some traction but with the usual American formulaic production I doubt if it will last 2 seasons max.
I hope I’m wrong.

Amazing how hollywood, is falling apart at the seems!! speilberg should
have made a series out of Jarassic park instead! A prehistoric series has
got to have dinosaurs i.e. T-Rex, Velociter raptors, as real as the movie
was or it’s NO GO!!! why should we settle for less? If they don’t have
a Trex I won’t watch it! Com’on let’s see realism and serious scary ground
shacking water in the glass shaking (here comes Trex!)get Noah Whyl from falling skies and their cast to be also involved. they had the right cast,
be poor story….. do not skimp on the realism of dinosaurs, or this show is
headed to a one season wonder. I could come up with a better story and cast!!!
