While DC kicked off its reboot this week, don’t look for Marvel to follow their example any time soon.
Marvel editor Tom Breevort was asked that question and responded, “You and folks like you seem to consider the only answer to a successful DC reboot to be a Marvel reboot. I don’t think that’s even in the top ten–not that I think we’re going to need to get there long-term in any case.”
So, it looks like Spider-Man is safe…for now!
Lejon from Chandler says
That same Spider-Man that died and got replaced in the Ultimates line?
KGDC says
It’s ULTIMATE Spider-Man… ala an ALTERNATE universe Spider-Man, not the original an classic Spider-Man. The Ultimate line is NOT the mainstream line and has the flexibility to change (and SHOULD). Besides, he wasn’t rebooted. He DIED (in an EPIC battle with the Green Goblin) and a new Spider-Man REPLACED him. That’s different from saying that everything (or pieces) of the universe no longer exist and starting over from scratch. This is not the same thing.
Chris says
Or how about the Spider-man that got completely rebooted with the “Brand New Day” storyline? DC does all their reboots at once. Marvel does them one at a time.
KGDC says
This is a valid arguement. One More Day was a DEFINITELY reboot of spider-man post Civil War. It was hit or miss (mostly hit), but it was the source of a GREAT deal of contraversy.
Christopher Huff says
Didn’t Marvel do the whole reboot thing about 5 years ago with the heroes reborn story lines? They reset a bunch of titles to #1 and reimaged a bunch of heroes…like a teen Tony Stark from the future.
As I recall it was a rather big flop, and was quickly dropped and over written and forgotten. And the numbering thing was pushed aside when they realized they can’t celebrate the 700th issue of the Fantastic Four with Issue #3 on the cover.
