George Lucas is at it again!
With the Star Wars franchise getting set to hit Blu-Ray later this year, Lucas is taking the opportunity to “tweak” the films yet again. Some of the tweaks are to address technical issues with the DVD releases of the films, including cleaned up images, a better transfer, addressing color timing in the light saber battles and removing obvious puppeteer hands in certain shots.
But Lucas wouldn’t be Lucas if he weren’t also doing a few other tweaks and surprises to all the films.
“Once again, George has apparently added a few new “surprises” into these films. I don’t know what they are and didn’t get to see any of them on Friday, but I was assured that there will be “new things to notice” when we watch the films. I think we can safely assume that one of them will be the new all-digital Yoda in Episode I,” says Digital Bit. “Way back when Episode III was released on DVD, ILM digital effects supervisor Pablo Helman confirmed to me that the puppet Yoda in Episode I was replaced with a digital version to better match his appearance in Episodes II and III. In fact, the Episode III DVD extras includes a clip of the Episode I digital Yoda. However, this Blu-ray set is really the first opportunity we’ll have to see it in full. What the other changes to these films may be, I have no idea, but I suspect there will be no lack of blog posts on this very subject within hours of the first discs becoming available to fans.”
I don’t care anymore. Lucas can do whatever. I am NOT buying another copy unless he decides to issue the original trilogy in its original glory. I’m done. To Mr. Lucas I say, There comes a time when your children have to go out into the world on their own. You have to stop zipping up their pants for them.
I feel the same way. I want to see episodes 4-6 as I saw them when I was a child back in the 70’s and 80’s. Not the newer/old movies. I really don’t believe anymore that he’s just doing this to make it more like the way he really wanted to do it originally. I think he’s just playing with his tech toys to see what else he can pull out of his hat. And, let’s face it, there are people(lots of people), who will have every single version of every single episode that was made available. I’m surprised he hasn’t retweaked the Thanksgiving Day TV special yet.
Horse, Dead, Beating… and beating… and beating again… and again ANNNNND again. Go beat something else. Try American Graffiti or yourself.
Shush!! Do you want someone to actually suggest to him that he start putting out digitally enhanced (ie, re-edited) versions of Graffiti? Or worse, a remake that spawns prequels and sequels? He’ll do it, ya know.
Yeah go make a sequel Amerikan Gaffitizzz… yo-yo. Staring Paris Hilton as Travolta’s daughter and guest staring the cast of Jersey Shore.
You’re gonna make me cry.
I’m tired of hearing about Star Wars. Everyone who has ever watched the movies gets the point of the entire story. Enough already! Making a tweak here and there isn’t going to change the story. Mr. Lucas, your 15 minutes of fame is over. PLEASE, do something else now.
There are some YouTube videos of these tweaks, and two of them are atrocious… There’s one where a new audio of Darth Vader saying “Nooooo” has been added as he picks up the Emperor and throws him into the chasm of the Death Star II, and the other is a REALLY BAD scream that Obi-Wan throws out when we first see him in Ep 4 as he comes to Luke’s rescue. Instead of the yell of the Krayt Dragon (I wish we would get the original sound back) he just yells out loud and it echoes against the canyon walls.
It’s dreadful and it almost has me convinced to NOT buy the Blu-Ray now.
