“B5” Reboot Not Happening

“B5” Reboot Not Happening

August 19, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 10 Comments

Yesterday, we brought you news that J. Michael Straczynski could be prepping some kind of new Babylon 5 project.   At least that’s according to series recurring star, Walter Koenig.

Turns out a new Babylon 5 project isn’t happening.

Straczynski tweeted yesterday that Koenig misspoke and that he’s not in conversations to bring back Babylon 5.

That may get some of us down today, but it was fun to hope for while it lasted.

Sorry for the language again folks. But this story is just another B5 cock tease. Warner’s needs to get their stuff together and give JMS the proper funds.

Fully understood. As for language, you should hear Tim on Babylon Podcast whenever there’s an update on what JMS is working on, and there’s no mention of his beloved Lensman project 🙂

Seriously, when JMS’ correction announcement came out, I started to wonder if maybe someone at WB engineered floating that rumor out there, just to test the waters and gauge how much interest there really is amongst fans (consumers) for a new B5 project. Hell, this rumor got more buzz going faster than any publicity they paid for “The Lost Tales” in 2007.

I must also point out that JMS’s tweet simply said “Walter misspoke: I am not in negotiations with WB to develop more Babylon 5”.

Now that doesn’t mean that he isn’t trying to get the rights back to develop something with someone else. To quote the show “Faith manages”

Wasn’t there an interview with JMS just a year or three ago where he all but said that there really couldn’t be another B5 due to the loss of some very key talent?

I believe what he said at the time was that if there were another B5 project, he would not use replacement actors for the characters of Dr Franklin and G’Kar, since both Richard Biggs and Andreas Katsulas had passed away, no matter what the studio might have wanted to do differently.

I don’t care what anyone says. I thought Legend of the Rangers could have went somewhere as a series. I would’ve watched it, anyway.

It’s possible that the project might actually still be a go, but JMS basically shut down Walter’s claims down because he (JMS) wants to get all of his ducks lined up in a row just the way he wants it regarding any contractual negotiations with WB and he doesn’t want any premature announcements to possibly screw it all up.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it…

JMS should do a Jos Whedon and take it elsewhere. Maybe Lion’s Gate. They like to throw money around. Heck. They remade the Punisher twice.
