Fresh off the success of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, director David Yates has been tapped to direct the big-screen version of Stephen King’s The Stand.
Yates will work with Hallows screenwriter Steve Klovles on the project, reports Hitfix.
According to the report, the adaptation of the novel would take place over multiple films.
King’s The Stand centres on the impact of a virus which manages to kill 99% of the human population, leaving only two gangs battling against each other for supremacy in the post-apocalyptic world.
The best-selling novel has been adapted as a six-hour mini-series.

While I’m sure he’ll do the best he can, the fact is you just can’t fit that story in one two hour (or even three hour) movie and do it justice. I just hope that when the movie inevitably fails, Yates doesn’t take all the blame for it.
i love the book.. and i enjoyed the tv movie, but……… is this going to be 2 or 3 films?
While I did enjoy some of the television version of “The Stand”, I was not pleased with actor that played Flagg. The special effects were a little cheesy too. Maybe with state of the art special effects and some A-List actors of all races, they will be able to make that book into the block buster movie it was meant to be.
I agree with the choice of actor for Flagg. Other than that I thought the mini-series was outstanding and see no reason why it should be done again just for the big screen.
