Mignola Teases Major Hellboy Chances

August 3, 2011 By News Droid Leave a Comment

If you’re a fan of the Hellboy comic book series and don’t want to know the major changes that are coming up, stop reading now. There are SPOILERS just ahead.

Major changes are headed for Hellboy says creator Mike Mignola. In fact, Mignola plans to kill off the character at the end of the latest mini-series Hellboy: The Fury.

“I killed Hellboy once before, but he came back pretty quick,” Mignola told Comic Book Resources.

“I knew he was dead, and I was waiting for people to go, ‘Oh shit! Hellboy’s dead!’ But nobody seemed to notice.

“So this time we’re doing Hellboy’s death where you’ll go, ‘No. He’s dead, and he’s not coming back in 12 minutes.’ There was a little bit of work that had to go into that because this really is the end of him as that physical character that appeared in the very first issue. It’s a weird thing to do, but it’s fun.”

“I always say that when characters die in the Hellboy universe, they just become more interesting,” he continued. “So Hellboy now is a lot more interesting.

“I just felt he’d run his course as the guy who everybody knows. Hellboy has been in the world walking around – as I’ve realized in doing these stories with [Hellboy artist Richard Corben] set in the past – for over 50 years doing all these things.”
