Stars of New “Total Recall” Differ on Original

Stars of New “Total Recall” Differ on Original

July 29, 2011 By Sam Sloan 2 Comments

Bryan Cranston and “Total Recall” co-stars have a difference of opinion when it comes to their love for the Arnold Schwarzenegger original film from director Paul Verhoeven.

According to Fox 411 Cranston found the original film amusing at first and with a current re-watch mostly dated. Cranston told 411 reporter Hollie McKay, “The fans of the original ‘Total Recall’ will identify with the title ‘Total Recall,’ that’s what they can relate to. Only this one will make the others feel embarrassed to call themselves ‘Total Recall.’” “When I saw it in 1990 I thought that’s fine, that’s cute, but I saw it again just recently and it’s like, hmmm… it didn’t hold up for me.”

Co-star Colin Ferrel disagreed with Cranston stating, “I loved the original. I have no idea what he’ll say (Arnold), but I will put in a call.”

The other stars of the film were also quick to support the original version while lauding their remake. “I hope that they’ll be happy to see it re-conceived,” said Kate Beckinsale. “I’ve always thought that movies set in the future date much quicker because you get to the future and realize that cell phones are actually much smaller, and a lot can become redundant in a few years, but it’s a very exciting world we’ve created.”

Finally, John Cho, no stranger to remaking icons (“Star Trek”), hopes Arnie likes it and “gives it the thumbs up, has a huge grin and bites on a cigar for (us),”

I saw the original “Total Recall”, not long ago and I still enjoyed it very much. I also saw “The Matrix” the other night. Even though “The Matrix” came out after the original “Total Recall”, “The Matrix” felt much more dated. Good luck Mr. Cranston replacing Arnold. I hope you pull it off I really do.

Cranston won’t be replacing Arnold. That will be Ferrell’s job. Cranston will be portraying Cohaggen, the role originaly done by Ronny Cox.
