Sawyer Trilogy Being Developed for TV

July 14, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

Best-selling writer Robert J. Sawyer announced on Facebook yesterday that his Hugo nominated series WWW is being developed for television.

The series chronicles an artificial intelligence coming becoming sentient via the Internet.

The trilogy published the third volume earlier this year.

Sawyer says the project is being developed by Original Pictures, Inc and that he’ll serve as executive producer along with Nicholas Hirst and Kim Todd. Sawyer also says he will write the pilot script for the show.

This isn’t the first time a Sawyer novel or novels have been adapted for television. Sawyer cautions fans to not start looking for the series in your listings just yet. It’s still in the development stages and doesn’t yet have a broadcaster.

Until then, you can read the trilogy of novels that were the basis for the project. We’ve read them and they’re brilliant.

I read WWW: Wake…the adaptation would probably have to be expanded like they did with Flash Forward. I like Sawyer but not sure he translates well to the TV media.

Sawyer is brilliant. The three book series could be great TV. Can you imagine an Internet without Spam or Lies or Predators?

I did enjoy the series but found it juvenile. Was this a YA series? Unless they make this series dark and realistic, I’ll skip it.
