Fan Collects Underwear Worn By “Doctor Who” Companions

June 21, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 6 Comments

Fans collect some interesting items.

But one Doctor Who fan may take the cake–or in this case the underpants.

Andy Cable writes that he’s collected 94 sets of underwear worn by actresses on Doctor Who.  Cable says he’s collected the undergarments that were worn both during shooting and at other times.

I first started collecting knickers in 1983 when at the Longleat Exhibition I was sold a pair of Janet Fielding’s underwear by a make-up lady. But let me be clear on this; there is nothing “perverted” or “weird” about my collection. We all collect things we like, and I find knickers more personal than an autograph on the back of a plastic cup.

To date I have ninety four pairs of knickers which I think you’ll agree is a wonderful achievement! I have built this collection up by begging, borrowing and on three occasions stealing. I like to write to female Doctor Who celebrities for items of their clothing and over the years it’s become pretty clear to me that the way to ask is to not refer to their “knickers” but their “feminine undergarments”.

Cable has a web site where you can find out more about his hobby.

After visiting this guy’s website, I get the impression he is just screwing around about alot of this. Many of the stories on the site for how he came into possession of the underwear seem somewhat plausible, but they all have an air of suspicion to them as though he is making stuff up out of thin air. Also, his collection doesn’t just have Doctor Who companion underwear, as most of the stuff comes from actresses who just played one-off characters in certain episodes. He also has underwear supposedly from female writers or directors of Doctor Who, which seems highly abnormal. It is one thing to collect clothing items from actual performers, but when you include production staff that seems like a bit too much.

I can’t imagine many women being very compliant when somebody requests a pair of their knickers, and calling them feminine undergarments is much creepier than knickers.

I suspect this isn’t true though.

As a woman, there are no words you could say to make me voluntarily give my underwear to some random stranger. Not even if they were Magical Underpants Chosen To Save The Universe. Get out of my inbox.
