Torv: “Fringe” Finale Has Been Written

Torv: “Fringe” Finale Has Been Written

June 20, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

While we don’t know how many seasons Fox will give the show, we can breath a bit easier knowing that the writing team knows how Fringe ends.

Actress Anna Torv reveals that the writers have created an end-point for the series.

“I’ve been told the ultimate final episode has been written,” she said. “[The writers] know where they want us to go, but they don’t know yet when we will get there.”

However, Torv added that plans for the show’s series finale “could still change”, noting that the writing team have only sketched out a “skeleton” premise.

“It’s more of a dance between the audience, the creators and the cast about what works and what doesn’t,” she explained. “It’s nice that although the skeleton of what is going to happen is there, it’s still a dance.”

Torv, who plays Olivia Dunham, also admitted that she personally has no idea how Fringe will come to an end.

“Initially, I wanted to know [what’s going to happen], now I’m happy not to,” she said. “There’s something great about working on a film or a play where you know where you’re going, but on television it’s more open and that’s good too.”

    1) This is good. One of the things that TV shows, especially in this genera, need more of is an overall story. What JMS did with Babylon 5 should be a guideline for every show. You don’t necessarily need a definitive story arc, but having an outline and an ending prepared makes for a better overall show.

    2) I am completely in love with Olivia Dunham. Ok, I just had to get that in there.

I’m glad they’re still going to be flexible, tho, so that they can make sure the ending takes the middle seasons into account – as much as having an endpoint helped with later seasons of Lost, its annoying when all the stuff in the middle turns out to not be relevant to the end at all…
