The BBC has given the green light to 14 more episodes of Doctor Who.
The episodes will air in 2012 (though the first could air as the holiday special later this year) BBC Head of Communications Sam Hodges confirmed via Twitter.
Producer Steven Moffat confirmed he will be back at the helm for the next series and that current Doctor Matt Smith will continue in the lead role.
“14 eps + Matt DEFINITELY. I’ve got a plan and I’m NOT TELLING YOU WHAT IT IS,” Moffat tweeted. “Now hush or River shoots you with her Spoiler Gun.”
No word yet on when the episodes will air or if they’ll be split up like this year’s run. (I expect the BBC is waiting to see the results of the split season before deciding one way or the other). And no word yet on if Karen Gillan will return as Amy Pond.
more episodes with matt smith great!!!! he has made a great doctor who… and as for the BBC splitting the series into two parts. it sounds cool as im in the uk and now have the summer break of doctor who until september.. and also as 2012 is a olympic year and the BBC is the major player in the UK for olympic coverage i would much prefer a split season. than having Doctor Who bumped around the schedules to make way for the olympic table tennis event
Possibly no Amy? WTF? She’s one of the reasons I picked back up watching Doctor Who. Don’t get wrong I’ve watched Doctor Who off and on since I was very little.
Companions come and go. It’s all part of the show. Amy shouldn’t overstay her welcome like Rose did….
I agree. Out with Amy and in with someone new!
1. I’m quite happy, but not surprised, that Doctor Who is coming back for another year.
2. Ditto regarding Matt Smith. He can be a bit over the top sometimes, but when the part calls for it he can really deliver the goods.
3. Please, no split season. If there is one thing that I really disliked it was this.
4. Amy’s story is pretty much over. In the past the companions were there just to look good. Now the story arcs are really about them during their association with the Doctor, and Amy’s story is virtually done. Allow her and Rory to gracefully leave (assuming Rory lives long enough for that to happen) and bring in a new companion.
