Abrams Addresses “Trek” Rumors

Abrams Addresses “Trek” Rumors

June 8, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 1 Comment

For the past couple of weeks, we’ve heard rumblings that the next Star Trek installment may move from next summer to the holiday season of 2012.

Director J.J. Abrams has said that Trek will be his next project after he’s done promoting Super 8.  But when exactly will we see Kirk, Spock and company back on the silver screen?

Abrams recently talked to Hit Fix’s Drew McWeeny about the next film.

“We are still working on story,” he says. “Some super cool stuff — but I won’t be able to make a decision on directing until we have our script and I know what I’m being asked to direct. As for release date, that is not a concern of mine. Perhaps we could still make the date the studio wants. But we are focusing on making a great movie: the guys I’m collaborating with are the best and we all want the same thing.”

Abrams had also said during the promotional junket for Super 8 that he and writers are “making a movie not a deadline.”

It’s looking more and more likely that we won’t get a new Trek next summer….but as long as they take their time and do it right, it should be worth the wait.

I have absolutely no problem with any possible delay in the next Trek movie, so long as it is done right. J.J. luckily also thinks along those same lines, and if the story is of the same quality as the last one then I will most likely NOT be disappointed!!!
