While it’s not been a hit with critics, Pirate of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has still managed to rake in lot of cash worldwide and Disney is looking to set sail again with a fifth installment.
Actor Johnny Depp has said he isn’t sure if he’ll return for a fifth time as Captain Jack Sparrow, but odds are if they back up enough Brinks trucks full of cash to his house, he will. Disney would also like to see director Rob Marshall return as well. Marshall directed this installment and Disney had had an offer out on the table for him to direct the fifth Pirates movies since January.
Disney would like to strike while the iron is hot and make sure the next installment is in theaters sooner rather than later. The studio is reportedly looking at other director options, including their original choice for On Stranger Tides, Tim Burton. Burton’s schedule conflicted for this production but Disney could go after him hard for the next installment.
Also on the list are Shawn Levy, Sam Raimi, Chris Weitz, and Alfonso Cuaron.
Of course, we’ll have to wait and see who directs and if Depp returns. And then we have to ask the bigger question–is a fifth Pirates movie really necessary?

Yes, Johnny will be back. He sold out the last time he said he would not do another one without the original director. Disney is going to milk that cow until its udders fall off.

In a word.. NO!!!!!!

Yes I love the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and he loves the character so why not continue! I think Tim Burton is a great director but (not saying this in a rude way) his works are generally more…out there… I want gore Verbinski back. He’s the original and with time he could create something just like the 1st movie.
