Could “The Event” Continue on Syfy?

Could “The Event” Continue on Syfy?

June 1, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 16 Comments

NBC’s recently canceled series The Event could get a second chance on Syfy.

And not just as syndicated repeats.

TV Line reports that show creator Nick Wauters and executive producer Steve Stark are in conversations with the cable outlet about a possible wrap-up mini-series for the show.

The big hurdle is the price tag.

But given that the show was produced by NBC/Universal and Syfy is owned by the same outlet, there is a solid possibility this could happen.

I commented about this on FB. I am a bit glad to hear this might be a possibility. I liked the show. It wasn’t anywhere near the quality of a Fringe or SGU but was far better than something like V. I would like to see the writers be allowed to bring the show to its rightful conclusion and a miniseries would allow for that.

I could definitely get behind this. I thought The Event was OK. Was it the best thing on TV? No, but as mentioned above, it was a lot better the V.

As memory serves, I believe they canceled “SGU” about six months ago, not last week. I don’t think that Syfy had this in mind back in December. And they’re not “picking up” “The Event”. It’s a miniseries, not a new season.

After the season finale I’d love to see SyFy pick it up…it was the only non-cable show I watched on a regular basis…and it’s actually science fiction…not a cooking show or auction. If it goes through maybe this will be a good sign that SyFy is getting the message about their programming…never the less I bet we are stuck with wrestling.

So they don’t even give SGU a mini series or TV movie to wrap things up, but might pick up this piece of shit!! There is no justice in the world.

I agree with what Sam said. I would watch that. The finale left you hangin’ as did SGU. I think they should both get a wrap-up.

Don’t give up on a mini or DVD for SGU quite yet. Everything depends on the financial development over at MGM. The future could still look bright for a worthy wrap-up for that Stargate series.

I sure hope you are right Sam. I have come to accept the fact that the TV show isn’t coming back. I am still hoping for either a mini series or a DVD movie. Come on MGM, you owe us that much!!

Wait for it. The SGU fans will boycott the Event because their show got canceled and this one is being picked up. Then SyFy will air 2 of the 3 part miniseries then pull it. Oh wait, am I getting my series mixed up?

It’s kind of hard to boycott a miniseries, isn’t it? It’s not like Syfy won’t show the second or third part (they haven’t said how many parts it will have) if the first part doesn’t bring in the numbers.

As for “The Event”, I liked it. It wasn’t one of my top favorite shows of the season, but it wasn’t one of my least either. It was kind of in the middle, along with “Fringe” and “Smallville”.

Between getting “The Event” or “SGU” back, I’d rather have “SGU”, but I’d also rather have something than nothing, so I’m supporting this miniseries idea for “The Event”.

Why does The Event have anything to do with SGU? SyFy, like every other channel, has an entire slate of programming, and would base their decision on finances at every turn. If they were to do this it would be for their benefit, not for fans of The Event, or SGU. But as to the quality of The Event, its hard to top. The show never quite caught on as anticipated but the effort was amazing. I believe their mistake was in not casting a big enough name in any of the lead roles. Shows like these need that marquee appeal and it missed the mark on that level. But take it easy SGU fans, the fate of The Event will have absolutely nothing to do with SGU.

I hope so. I jumped on The Event wagon late in the season and I enjoyed it much. Just when it became a DVR regular for me, they announce its cancellation. I hope they can make a mini-series and bring about a better closure.

The Event was a poorly conceived and told story. It does not DESERVE to get a wrap-up!!!
