@Steve. I honestly doubt this. If this were RTD, I’d think you were on the right track. But Moffat has shown than that he has a larger ambition for the show.

It could be an offspring of the Doctor’s daughter from season 4?
It could be the daughter of River and the Doctor?
It could be the offspring of Rose and the duplicate Doctor?
It could be the next evolutionary step for the Dalek’s?
It could Dr. Jackson fiddling with ascention while contemplating reincarnation while meditating about time travel? nope, wrong show.

I think it might be an incarnation of the Doctor. Maybe somehow because of something that happened, the Doctor regenerated, but his old incarnation didn’t die. So then there are two Doctor’s, but since that is Paradoxal, the Doctor accepts his fate and let’s the “girl” version of himself kill him. It might be an Improbable situation, but the first episode was called “The Impossible Astronaut” 😉

Have no idea…as I said in another post not sure if there may not be two children…Amy and Rory’s and the Doctor’s and River’s since both Amy and River were sick and none of the males got sick. What did they do with the suit anyway…is it still on the TARDIS?
Maybe the best thing would be for it to be the doctor in the suit…may be the only way they can bring him back…by killing one of the doctors and the doctor in the suit regenerates and frees himself. If that’s the case the storyline might not end until Matt Smith passes the reigns to someone else.
Mich67says
Also if it’s River as a girl…is it possible that River is Amy and Rory’s child?
Ed from Texassays
Well, having seen the start of a regeneration, we know she’s at least part Timelord. That highly suggests a direct connection to the Dr. The child seems to be child like in nature, suggesting that the child is not a future incarnation of the Dr. himself. It’s pretty clear that River and the Dr. had/will have a pretty serious relationship lending support to the child being an offspring of those two. Yet, you would think River would have clued into that if it were her child. Guess I’ll have to vote “I don’t know” on this one.
Perrysays
Facts:
– Amy is pregant (or to be exact: sometimes she is and sometimes she isn’t)
– The child had a picture of Amy with this small child (mother/daughter?)
– The child can regenrate.
Working backward I would say that the child is timelord related.
Maybe from the Doctor, maybe from the Master, or some other timelord (Romana, Susan, ???)
Most likely Amy is her mother.
The father could be introduced at some later date, earlier in her timeline. It might be the Doctor. I doubt it is Rory.
More interesting would be if Amy were both the child, and it”s expecting mother. Talk about a self fulfilling paradox.
Then the only question remaining would be: where did Amy come from and who is her (timelord-)father?
This entire Doctor Who Universe has some very unreal aspects to it these last two seasons. Almost as if the Doctor was somehow trapped in a bubble-universe cut off from the real universe.
Too many things revolve around Amy to be mere coincidence.

One of the reasons I think that the girl may be River as a child is the fact that she did reveal that she kills the Doctor at some future date and since the death witnessed by the lake took place when the Doctor is 200 years older than his current incarnation, then perhaps that is the real connection between River the Doctor.
But then again, what part does the NASA suit play, why is River so familiar with the Doctor as an adult? It’s enough to make your head explode and that is just another reason why I love Moffat’s style.
Now, who is the girl in the suit? Who the hell knows at this point except Moffat!
River can’t be the offspring of the Doctor because she did sort of die in the episode with the library and the shadows (Silence of the Library/Forest of the Dead) and her “data ghost” was saved in the library’s data core. The girl at the end of the last episode was able to regenerate making her at least part Time Lord, while there was no regeneration for River. I speculate it was River who killed the Doctor under his orders to do so because of some sort paradox. She was sent to prison for killing “the best man she’d ever known.”
I used to think that River Song was an older version of Amelia Pond, but Moffat has already dismissed that idea from what I read. Could she be the Doctor’s and Amy’s daughter? Is that why she knows how to operate the Tardis? However, she keeps referirng to the Doctor as “Sweetie” and even kissed him inferring a more romantic relationship. It’s enough to make my head spin.

“River can’t be the offspring of the Doctor because she did sort of die in the episode with the library and the shadows”
River tells the Doctor in this episode “You’ll burn up both your hearts and don’t think you’ll regenerate.”
But I think the Doctor would realise if River was part time lord, although it would make sense for River to be able to regenerate since she’s going to be a character in Doctor Who until the end, maybe 10-20 years away (we hope).
Hmmm…. New theory: The space suit that shot the Doctor is empty.
River: Doctor, a unit like this, would it ever be able to move without an occupant?
The Doctor: Why?
River: Well the little girl said the space man was coming to eat her. Maybe that’s exactly what happened.
Yeah, I actually thought the one that did the shooting was full grown river and space suit baby was something different and hallucinatory.

My Current standing theory is a little bit of a mix all a few of them.
The child is rorys and amies, their child is none other than river song.
How? We know time lord children look into the vortex of time and space as a right of passage, Amy has had the universe of time and space coming through the crack in her wall for most her life.
We know river has killed someone, someone good and important, ive always felt that was the doctor, this will likely be the first time they met, as far as river is concerned. If river is the girl in the suit then she kills the doctor upon meeting him at the lake.
End of current thought….

I don’t know much about the early Doctors but could the little girl in the suit is possibly be his niece?(I don’t know if its even possible). from what iv read the Doctors first companion was his niece hence where I got the idea.

I think Zoe is dead on. The suit is empty and there is some sort of live/empty suit that kills the Dr. However, What an awesome story would it be if amy and rory are the parents of river and the little girl is amy as a time lord that gets her minds erased or something. I mean isn’t Rory still a robot that can live forever? He did stand 2000years infront of pandoras box!

Just watched a re-run of Inside the Library on YouTube. I think River is the Doctor’s wife, River wispered his name in his ear and he said “There’s only one time I would ever tell someone my name” (apart from Who presumably), and presumably that’s when you sign the Registrar. So they’re husband and wife, from which comes children, so the child in the Space Suit is the Doctor and River’s child. But … I think the Eyepatch Woman is a mid-wife, helping Amy to give birth to her and Rory’s child, and actually (OK, going out on a limb here) this whole series is taking place inside Amy’s womb, all the bit about a cocoon in a Space Suit to protect a child is very womb-like. Anyway, its gr8.

There is no way that River is the Doctor’s daughter. I have been married three times and I know how a married couple works. I pegged her for his wife from the first time we saw her in Silence in the Library. I think a younger River (played by a different actress) may be the next companion after Rory and Amy leave.
Also, there’s something about Rory that’s piqued my interest. The Doctor asked him about if he remembered the 2000 years and he said something to the effect of, “I remember it, but I keep it behind a door.” I get the feeling that it’s more than just a throw away line.
As to who is in the suit, I think it’s River, but an older version. Not a child. Although, I really like the idea of another regenerated Doctor being it. That and that this entire season is taking place inside Amy’s womb.
What if she’s a flesh copy? ‘Cuz remember River said she TORE her way out of the suit?????? Maybe the silence impregnated Amy with something and kept her for the whole pregnancy (she wouldn’t be able 2 remember) and took it. They could have gone back in time. I don’t think it could be River because she was obviously raised by that lady with the eye-patch as a weapon. And also it would be way too obvious if it was her.
