And the most profitable movie of 2011 (so far) is….Insidious.
If you thought it might be one of those movies that opened at number one or two and stayed there for a few weeks, you’d be incorrect.
Turns out that Insidious cost a mere $1.5 million to make and its take in $44.5 million in North America and is expected to make $90 million world wide.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, much of the film’s budget was spent on marketing with the actors and creative people involved taking deferred payments.
That actually makes me very happy to hear. This movie really got to me and I’m a huge fan of horror and very rarely impressed. Perhaps Hollywood will take a step back into mind-bending horror and away from it’s love of shock-horror (Saw, etc).
