Actor Russell Brand was competing against himself at the box-office this weekend. The actor provides the voice for one of the animated characters in Hop and was the headliner for the reboot of Arthur.
In the end, audiences went with the animated feature Hop over the reboot. In its second week, Hop topped the box office with $21.7 million.
Second place went to the re-make of Arthur. The film took in $12.6 million.
In third another newly opened film, Hanna. The film took in $12.3 million.
The family film Soul Surfer, the true story of a girl who lost her arm in a shark attack, took fourth place with $11.1 million, beating projections by $1 million.
The horror film Insidious was fifth with $9.7 million, which lifted its 10-day total to $27.1 million.
In sixth place was the comedy Your Highness, starring Natalie Portman. The film took in $9.6 million in its opening weekend.
