Deadpool Gets Director

April 11, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

While the status of a new Wolverine movie is in limbo, a new X-Men: Origins movie is moving forward.  This one will center on the character of Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds in X-Men: Origins:  Wolverine.

Visual effects artist Tim Miller has been tapped by 20th Century Fox to direct the film.  This will be his directing debut.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the script for Deadpool, being produced by Lauren Shuler Donner.

Reynolds is currently attached to reprise the role of Deadpool.

Uh… I don’t get it. Didn’t we see both the origin and death of Deadpool in Wolverine? Seems a little redundant.

Jeff, I don’t know if you stuck through the credits at the end of Wolverine, but an additional scene shows Deadpool not quite as dead as suspected. While Wolverine introduced Deadpool, it might serve them better to ignore the events in Wolverine and just tell a great Deadpool story.

    YouTube to the rescue!

Yeah, okay. Weird that I hadn’t seen that before. I usually stay through the credits. Though I think I saw this one with a group that was eager to get out.

So I guess the new movie would be like a ‘re-origin’ story… kinda.

I hope this movie is awesome, I’ll be so angry if not.

How can Reynolds reprise the role of Deadpool? He wasn’t the one to play the part of Deadpool. Yes, Reynolds briefly portrayed the character Wade, who was supposedly the character used to create Weapon XI. But Scott Adkins was the one to play the part of Deadpool. Which in my opinion, was a poorly thought out character.
