Tron: Legacy hit Blu-Ray and DVD yesterday. Among the extras on the disc, there is rumored to be an Easter Egg trailer for a third installment.
And while Disney hasn’t yet given the green light for a third Tron, director Joseph Kosinski is optimistic about the franchise’s future.
“We laid enough groundwork in Legacy that there’s a lot of kind of jumping off points for additional places to go. I think Legacy ended on a very open-ended, very interesting note. If stuff can cross over [from the Grid to the real world], just imagine the possibilities of what that means for the next chapter,” he tells Empire.
And if a third Tron does move forward, Kosniski wants to see the next movie push the boundaries a bit.
“If we do another one, I think we owe it to Tron to figure out what’s the next frontier,” he says.

Do we really need another one?
@Lejon: Do we really need another season of Doctor Who? How about another Star Trek movie? After all, it’s been 50+ years each. Haven’t we already covered the entirety of what those franchises have to say?
Getting another Tron movie whether you want it or not is a purely first world problem. Why are we complaining about getting more genre content? If it is crap, it will fail. If it is enjoyed by the majority of genre fans, then it was worth something. If you don’t share in the valuation of that worth, then don’t partake of the offering.
yes i am excited there may be another i would also move to have the music created by the genius of daft punk again. this movie was an amazing continuation to the first one. I agree there are great opportunities to expand however i would caution on the person to be behind its production as well as script. it is sort of one of those things where the script was so well adapted from the first movie essential continuing on with the strength of story equaled on par by pushing boundaries in effects and yet keeping the authentic-ism and nostalgia from the first. i would recommend returning for the script to the person behind tron legacy and and also from the above statement it seems that the director has a well grounded understanding of this. some wish to push things and end up taking things in a new direction and fail he seems to be willing to push to new heights but i believe would keep the original essence of tron still well grounded and hopefully not stretch tron into something it is not.
While Tron: Legacy didn’t do all that well here in the US, it scored pretty big throughout the world. Also, the ratio of cost to box office receipts is comparable to the Star Trek reboot, yet no one is calling that movie a failure.
As for me, I’m a die-hard Tron fan and have been ever since I saw the first movie in the theaters back in 1983. I loved Tron: Legacy and I eagerly look forward to seeing the third movie in this franchise!
I thoroughly enjoyed “Tron: Legacy”, and I would welcome further releases in the series provided they are as well done as this one. I think there is definite possibility for the series, especially if Daft Punk continues creating the music. They did an awesome job this time around.
Yes, there should be a third. If you don’t like it, kiss off. You are aren’t forced to watch it.
