NBC Changes “Wonder Woman” Costume

NBC Changes “Wonder Woman” Costume

March 30, 2011 By News Droid 21 Comments

Responding to the negative publicity generated by the first look at the new Wonder Woman costume, NBC has reportedly made a few modifications to the outfit.

The costume is part of the reboot series with David E. Kelly at the helm and Adrienne Palicki as the title star.

A blurry video from the set has made its way on-line.  You can check it out HERE.

It’s not a clear shot. But there is a clearer image from Bleeding Cool and Topless Robot that may give you a better idea of the costume in action.

Here it is:

    The pants are … better.

The top doesn’t need to be shiny, it looks like plastic. It’s a step in the right direction though.

OK. I like what you’ve done here. Now, what can you do about the face? She looks all sour and stuff…Can you airbrush that out?

I like this one much better.

If the top is going to be shiny, then I liked the shiny pants better. These pants look like those pajama jeans on the informercial. Yuck!

Having said that, I don’t think there is really anything they can do to please someone like me. I am smack in the middle of the demographic group that grew up watching and idolizing Lynda Carter when her version originally aired. My daughters, ages 18 and 14, will probably love this new version.

Now. that is a bit better. She actually looks like she can breathe in those pants. Never underestimate the power of the fan base to make needed changes.

As far as the face is concerned in this one shot, if a bad guy (or gal) see’s that determined face coming at you they will be reluctant to offer up much resistance. I don’t have a problem with this one-sheet frame of her facial expression as in the actual show you’d probably miss it during the action sequence anyway (unless they did one of those Bionic Woman slow-mo shots).

I’m relieved! I think the pants and new boots are much better. As to her face, I defy anyone to run full out and not make funny faces. The still photos just caught her at a bad time, I’m sure it’ll look fine on camera. I remain skeptical about the writing but do feel better about the look. Baby steps. 😉

That’s exactly like the recoloured version of the original costume that’s floating around the interwebs.

Definitely better – not complaining, but does anyone else get a 19th-c army/cavalry uniform vibe from the pants/boots?

Agreed with most here that the improvements made are definitely improvements. Now if we can just see the same thing happen to the script…..

I like the stars down the outside. Am I the only one who thinks this costume looks like it has 70s Battle Star Galactica ornaments?

  12. Mal@Oz says

    March 30, 2011 at 7:44 pm

Well how would you like it being caught on camera in that outfit racing back to cook her mans dinner.

Weren’t the pants & boots the same color before? That’s what I didn’t like. Glad they fixed it.

Why not the black costume from the comics???

I do like that improved on th lower half of the costume, and it makes more sense to have the boots low-heeled; it’s more real looking when jumping around and chasing down the badguys. Nostalgically, it would be interesting to see what she would look like in a pair blue-and-white-starred shorts, perhaps made of the same material and coloring. The top half does need improing though! Maybe if the red of her top was of a brush satin material, which would accent the gold parts of the outfit, and have the golden belt and her eagle breastplate more of a “polished” gold, to make it appear more natural than plastic looking. Love the bracelets, lasso and tiara!

This is an improvement over the first costume. The bracelets seem a bit too much as I remember the bracelets were small while in this picture, they are much larger.

It’s a good deal better, but I still think the top could do with some shoulder straps at the very least, if not the rest of the fabric needed to make a shirt / vest / jacket. There’s only so much tuxedo tape can do, after all, and a girl really ought to protect her upper torso when fighting crime.

  18. Randall says

    March 31, 2011 at 8:24 am

This costume is a definite improvement.

Note that the new red boots have a low heel. She can actually run in them.

Remember that line from the original theme song about, “In her satin tights fighting for her rights.” That never made sense since the Lynda Carter costume had bare legs or translucent hose.

I’m still bugged by the bracelets being silver-colored and everything else being gold. Plus, I’ve never been a fan of spandex/pvc superhero costumes – save them for the comics. Find her something more practical to wear on tv – like the new black version in the comics – and put this back into the comic version.
I do like the low heeled boots!
    Just my 2 cents!

I must confess I find it interesting that this costume pretty much exactly incorporates the photoshop work done to the original when it was shown off recently. Definitely an improvement.

However, maybe things will look better in post-production, but these images seem very flat and lifeless. Not the kind of imagery I expect from a super hero show.

  21. Harleygirl says

    April 9, 2011 at 6:10 pm

Dani, I’m right with you…Lynda Carter was the quintessential Wonder Woman.

Yes, the boots are a start…I will give them that. But no woman in her right mind would ever actually PLAN to wear such a low-cut plastic top for anything – especially not for activities like running and wrangling evil-doers! That plastic material doesn’t breathe, so you know she’s got to be sweating bullets under there, and that’s just icky. That top is a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen (not to mention that it makes her body look like the top isn’t the only thing that’s plastic!!).
