After months of buzz and anticipation, many expected Sucker Punch to take home the box-office crown. But it was a sequel that blindsided the new film to win the weekend.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules took in $22.1 million in its opening weekend and topped the box-office. The family-friendly sequel took in $3 million more than Sucker Punch, which came in second with $19 million. That total includes $4 million from theaters using IMAX.
Third place went to last week’s top box-office draw, Limitless. The movie saw its business drop by 19% to $15.2 million.
Fourth place went to The Lincoln Lawyer with $11 million and fifth was the animated Rango with $9 million.
Lejon from Chandler says
So, Sucker Punch got Sucker Punched, eh?
Randall says
From its television ads, I had assumed the Wimpy Kid sequel was a direct-to-video release.
So, was “Sucker Punch” any good? I was busy all weekend.
Brian Brown says
Depends on what you’re looking for in a movie I suppose….
