New “Narnia” Movie Coming?

March 23, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 9 Comments

While the Narnia movies haven’t been huge hits in the U.S., they have done a solid business world-wide.

So while the third film, Voyage of the Dawn Treader wasn’t a huge hit for Walden Media and 20th Century Fox, the two are in talks to make a fourth Narnia film.  And this time, they’re looking to adapt The Magician’s Nephew for the silver screen.

Narnia fans will note that Nephew isn’t the next installment in the series.  That’s The Silver Chair.

Nephew is a prequel to the Narnia books, though it was published fifth.  The story delves into the creation of Narnia by Aslan.

I wouldn’t mind seeing this story. I think they should stay away from the latter books in this series.

I really liked The Silver Chair. The Final Battle? Not so much. I like Magician’s Nephew, but I would like to see Silver Chair, too.

OK. If they make a fourth film in the series, it breaks the curse of never getting past Dawn Treader, but I don’t know if I can get behind Mag’s Neph. Of course, if they want to use the same actor for the prince as an older man, that could work, but then the kids from Earth all grow up too much… I don’t know… they aren’t working the pattern well. Unless… perhaps they could film both at the same time and release them Nephew then Chair… which will spark, yet another debate on the order the films should be watched…OH MY HEAD

The Magician’s nephew doesn’t use any of the same children as the other books. It features the old prof (from Wardrobe) as a child. Silver Chair follows Eustace, so some aging might be allowed. Caspian is also involved.

Please let the Magician’s nephew be the next film to be made. Tilda Swenton is AWESOME as the White Witch and this time she IS in the book. I noticed when I saw Caspian that the audience sat up more and got emotionally involved in the movie. The same thing happened in Narnia 3. She’s a great film villain. Pure Evil. I so glad it has just broke box office record 300.000 mark international- topping Caspian. I can’t see anyone else playing the White witch . Can you? Their doing such a great job with these movies. To bad Disney lost faith. With the 3 movie out doing the second movie their is no reason why the next movie shouldn’t be made.

I personally think Silver Chair should be next. Eustace was already getting big and mature looking for dawn Treader, they do not need to wait to long or he will be to old. IMO the order being made from here should be
    Silver Chair
    Final Battle
    Magician’s Nephew
Horse and his Boy (since edmond and lucy need to be older for it)

The Silver Chair is not the most exciting plotline ever invented, with the pair of “heroes” making a bags of it most of the way through.

Since the book are available in print for decades most people should jknow the original plot, but all I’ll say is that it will need a ton of inventive screenplay to make it half as interesting as VOTDT.

Neither Jill Pole nor Eustance Scrubbs are particularly engaging characters. The Marsh Wiggle is a precursor of Jar Jar Binks with the personality of C3PO.

Flashbacks to the taking of Rilian and the fate of his mother will allow some interest while the final scene is the greatest anti-climax in print, albeit spectacular in scope.

Silver chair would make a great movie. A quest, with Giants, and Marsh Wiggles,
Witches, enchantments, and a lost Prince. A massive underworld Kingdom with Gnomes. Great premise for a story
