Blastr Lists the Ten Worst Sci-Fi Televison Specials Ever

March 23, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

We all know that the Star Wars Holiday Special is one of the worst things to ever hit the airwaves.

But did you know that there could be nine more sci-fi specials that rank up there alongside the infamous holiday edition of “a galaxy far, far away”?

You may have seen some of these.  You may have spent a lot of money on therapy trying to forget them.

But today Blastr has a list of the ten most hilariously bad  sci-fi television specials ever.

Here’s one of them:

9. Bugs Bunny in Space

In 1977, budding young space nerds eagerly tuned in their TVs to the special presentation of “Bugs Bunny in Space.” Those who hoped to be delighted by novel tales of exploring the final frontier were severely disappointed. I want to show you screencaps, but it’s difficult considering this TV special contained zero new footage.

That’s right, none. Viewers were presented with a variety of past “space-themed” Looney Tunes. Sure, those shorts were classics, but this is just wrong. It hearkens back to a time when a TV station could advertise a “TV Special” for weeks, and then just show a bunch of reruns. We’re lucky the TV industry is no longer so morally unscrupulous.

If you’re brave enough to read the full list, it’s HERE. But be warned that the list does contain clips from the specials.

Best SF TV special ever–the Christmas episode of Invader Zim. Watch it! It’s brilliant!

I have a copy of the Star Wars Holiday Special. I remember when it first aired that I anxiously awaited it because it was, at the time, the first new Star Wars entry since the first movie came out (ep 4).

At the time I thought it was okay. Cheesy, but okay. However, after having watched it just a year ago I can say that it is truly dreadful, but what do you expect from something that was produced by Bruce Villanche?

A really bad TV sci fi show, but at times so bad that it borders on good!!
