It took three weeks for the animated movie “Gnomeo and Juliet” to climb to the top, but it did. The film took in $14.2 million over the weekend, overtaking several newcomers at the box-office.
In second was “Hall Pass” which took in $13.4 million. Many Hollywood analysts expected the comedy to win the weekend and take in more. It may be that bad reviews and word of mouth kept audiences away from the comedy.
In third place was “Unknown” with $12.4 million. Fourth place went to “Just Go With It” with $11.1 million. Rounding out the top five was the Justin Beiber biography film with $11 million.
“Drive Angry in 3-D” was a huge disappointment, opening ninth and taking in $5.1 million.

It could also be that the whole premise for “Hall Pass” was so dumb that no one in their right mind wanted to see it.
Maybe.
