On a holiday weekend, box-office sales continued to lag.
Many Hollywood experts predicted that new-comer “I Am Number Four” would open in the top-spot at the box-office. But the movie could only muster up enough business to land in the third spot behind “Unknown” and “Gnomeo and Juliet.”
“Unknown” took in $25.6 million in ticket sales and “Gnomeo” took in $24.8 million. “Four” saw $22.7 million which was several million short of projections.
Fourth place went to “Just Go With It” with $18.4 million. Rounding out the top five was the latest in the “Big Momma’s House” franchise, “Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son.” That movie took in $16.2 million.
