Warner Offers “Inception,” “Dark Knight” Via App

February 16, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

Looking to have a copy of “Inception” or “Dark Knight” on your iPhone?

There’s an app for that.

Warner Brothers will begin offering an app for Apple products that allows users to download a copy of “Inception” or “The Dark Knight” to their mobile device.

The studio is hoping to garner sales of the films in 35 countries worldwide, 23 of which don’t have access to the movie section of the iTunes store.

This marks the first time that movies are available on Apple mobile devices outside of the firm’s iTunes Store.

Consumers with iPhones, iPads or an iPod touch can download the app for free. The download includes the first five minutes of the movies along with games, trivia, and other material.

The full movie carries the standard iTunes prices of $9.99 for “Dark Knight” and $11.99 for “Inception” in the U.S.

There’s also an Inception App for the iPhone (and I think the iTouch as well) that’s pretty cool.
You ‘play’ it while wearing your ear buds. There are things that you do at specific times of the day or night, while in a quiet room or a place that’s noisy. There are keys to areas you ‘unlock’ by doing these activities.
And there’s atmospheric music from the movie playing while you’re in the “Dream State”.
Whoever designed this thing did a great job.
    And it’s Free!!

Or you know, you could just take your own DVD and encode it yourself. If you know how to use DVDDecryptor + AutoGordion Knot, Handbrake or whatever you can save yourself the trouble of never having to buy the DVD and a limited time digital copy, or no digital copy at all. There are apps for Android that allow you to play pretty much whatever file type you want, and I think one of my friends told me there’s an on the fly encoder for the iphone as well…
