TV Guide Examines Which Shows Will Be Back, Which May Not

February 15, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 14 Comments

It’s that time of year… time to start the bubble watch.

TV Guide has a break-down of which shows it thinks will be back in the fall and which ones may need help.

The good news–“Fringe” is predicted to be back next year.

The bad news–“Chuck” is once again on the bubble.

The list of shows not likely returning includes “The Cape,” which recently had its episode order cut by NBC.

Here’s the full list.  Start the campaign to save both shows now! (We can never assume they’ll be back!)

update: Looks like the original TV Guide article broke or something, so here’s their updated list: Fall 2011 TV Scorecard: Which Shows Are Returning? Which Aren’t?

It would be a huge disappointment if they cancelled ‘Nikita’ and ‘Off the Map’! Love Both of these shows! Of course after the ‘Powers that be’ cancelled Cult favorites like ‘Farscape’ and ‘Legend of the Seeker’, two shows that were ina class so far above average television, I am not surprised! Who the heck is in charge there, whoever they are, they’re out of touch with both quality and what the fans Love!!

I was disappointed at the ratings the Cape received. The show got off to a slow start but progressively got better with each episode. I guess people just tuned it out after it’s debut and never gave it a chance. The writing and acting are excellent and the storyline has turned out to be intriguing. I’ve looked forward to it every week. I will be sad to see it go. Really wish NBC would simply shift it to Syfy like they did with Merlin. Perhaps it could find it’s audience there.

I think I’m more dissapointed in the shows getting renewed than the ones getting the ax. We need more original new content. I get bored with shows after a season or two.

I’m not going to miss the Cape, V or the Event. All can be tossed under the bus to make room for some better Scifi. Let’s fight to keep Chuck however.

I love watching Chuck, but unless they come up with another great story arc, I don’t really see the show being able to continue after Chuck and Sarah get married. How about if they give us a spinoff “Jeffster!” 🙂

Good point about chuck running out of story when they get married. Perhaps the end it big this year. Maybe more us shows should take the BBC model of short runs. 7 years of any scifi show is unlikely and might not be good. I’ll take four great years and out. With that said two more for fringe and chuck please.

Of the shows on the lists that I watch, most of them are on the “Looking Not So Good” list: “The Event”, “Human Target”, “No Ordinary Family”, and “V”. Out of those four, I’d most like to see either “The Event” or “No Ordinary Family” get another chance. Unfortunately, “Human Target” and “V” aren’t as good this season. But still, I’d like to have all the shows I watch to have a future.

On the “Looking Good” list are two that I watch: “Supernatural” and “Fringe”. But considering recent ratings, I’d think that “Fringe” belongs in the “Looking Not So Good” list. Regardless, I consider both shows to be great and I hope they continue.

The only one I watch from the “Renewed” list is “Castle”. I have a feeling that that show will be around for a while.

For some reason, the original link at TV Guide went away, or broke. The new one’s linked there now.

Most of mine also appear to be on the ‘not so good list’….”The Cape, Chuck, Human Target, The Event, V and Detroit 1-8-7″. I am beginning to wonder why I even invest my time watching new shows. Should just wait until they make it to season 3 then watch the dvds. Grrrrr!

Much as I love my DVR, the gang at Slice is right. If we want genre shows to make it we have to start watching them LIVE. I know its a pain but that is the only rating that really means anything to the sponsors.

ALibertarian – What in the world would make you think that? Unless you are a Nielsen household, it doesn’t matter what you watch. Your viewing doesn’t matter and will never count, unless you’re one of those select, mysterious Nielsen households. And, chances are, you’re not. Realistically, live or DVR doesn’t make the slightest bit of difference.

The Cape is fun and entertaining, which is a heck of a lot more than I can say for The Event.

The whole reason I started watching this show is for the same reason I started watching TSCC (really awesome and unfairly cut show btw) was because of Summer Glau. I am wondering why they have not given her more scenes??? I know for me that is why I tune in every Monday night!

Is NBC crazy? I like “THE CAPE” approximately as much as HOUSE, LIE TO ME, and SMALLVILLE. I am addicted to this show. Why do they NOT want to make me happy? Maybe this show costs a little more to produce but it is well worth it. Why can’t they see how important it is to keep making new episodes? I could care less about NO ORDINARY FAMILY – it has no major quality storylines, but CAPE is a class product like STAR TREK was. CHUCK is NOT worth the time. FRINGE appears to have much hope for becoming a good series. Where can I write to complain about NBC’s bad decision making regarding its renewal policies? I can’t live without my weekly fix of “THE CAPE”.
