Yesterday, we brought you news of the new app aimed at helping Catholics through confession. The app, being sold for $1.99 for iPhones, met with the approval of the U.S. Catholic Church.
But it appears that higher authorities within the church don’t approve.
According to TG Daily, the Vatican does not approve of the new app.
The Vatican has officially come forth to ban the iPhone app saying despite what local Catholic leaders may have said, “under no circumstance is it possible to ‘confess by iPhone.'”
“It is essential to understand that the rites of penance require a personal dialogue between penitents and their confessor… It cannot be replaced by a computer application,” Vatican spokesperson Federico Lombardi said during a news conference.

FYI: You’re reporting is still flawed here.
The app does NOT claim to be able to “confess by iPhone” and the Vatican is in complete agreement with what the app claims, which is only that it is an aid to helping people actually go to confession.
So the Vatican is only REAFFIRMING what the app creators say.
The problem is NOT with the Vatican or the U.S. Catholic Church or the app. The problem is with the lack reporting and only the expression of sensational ideas that are void of actual research that has caused confusion amongst many people.

@fgj – Sure, ok, but how do you think most end-users would actually end up using it?

I encrypt my sins on my Android phone. Even god can’t break that encryption.

The true reason the church is against it is more likely related to the church not reaping the proffits.

Why am I getting a mental image of Martin Luther, or possibly Lex Luthor, posting his grievances on the church BBS?
Richard Steiner says
Martin Luther or Lex Luthor posting via BBS. Now that is Brilliant!
Next up, an indulgence app.
