“Highlander” Reboot Gets New Script Writer

“Highlander” Reboot Gets New Script Writer

February 10, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 10 Comments

Apparently there can be more than one.

The “Highlander” reboot is moving forward and it’s got a new writer. Script writre Melissa Rosenberg, who adapted the “Twilight” novels for the big-screen, has been hired to take a pass at the script for a reboot.

Neal Moritz is producing the project, which offers an update on the 1986 movie starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown. Justin Lin, director of the upcoming “Fast Five” is attached to direct. Peter Davis is also producing.

The original story centered on a Scottish swordsman, who discovers he is part of a secret race of near-immortal beings and faces off against an unstoppable barbarian who covets the power gained from there being only one of their kind left.

Summit acquired remake rights to Highlander from Panzer/Davis Productions, producer of the original film, in 2008. Art Marcum and Matt Holloway wrote the initial draft while Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Sellek Wibberley also worked on the script.

Despite the original “Highlander” story having much more creative meat than the entire “Twilight” series, I’m not optimistic.

Oh, no!! Not another movie with sparkly immortals. This will only be good if they combine Highlander and Twilight and Conor gets to behead Edward.

If there is a movie that’s ripe for a remake, it’s Highlander. While beloved by many, including me, and full of great concepts it could really be something mind-blowing with a big budget, a stellar cast and a strong visionary at the helm… as to the strong visionary, we’re screwed.

Oh, do you think they’ll still have Pro-Wrestling in the Reboot? All the more reason for Syfy to Air it regularly on Saturdays!

And yet it’ll still be better than The Source.

Huzzah! We get to visit the planet Zeist again! Oh… wait…. that’s from the movie that we all want to pretend never happened. Well, I’m sure this one will be much better.

Long time since I saw the original…would love to see a remake but Twilight has to be one of the most boring movie series I’ve ever watched(I rented just to see what all the hype was about and was not impressed)…anyway if Highlander gets the same treatment I think I’d rather take a nap ( which is essentially what I started to do during Twilight as I found myself nodding off).
