Knight Joins “Torchwood”

Knight Joins “Torchwood”

February 9, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 9 Comments

wayne_knight“Hello, Newman.”

That catch-phrase met actor Wayne Knight’s character Newman each time he encountered Jerry on the long-running sit-com “Seinfeld.”

Knight is a well known character actor in Hollywood. In addition to his work on “Seinfeld” he was also in “Basic Instinct” and “Jurassic Park”

Now he’s joining the cast of “Torchwood: Miracle Day.”

The news broke on Twitter earlier this week. There’s no word yet on who Knight will play in the upcoming season.

I am like anothe blogger, I am not that optimistic about an Amercan version of Torchwood. Sometimes Amercanized versions of things British can be so off the mark… I am hoping it is not a smart alecky comedy.

Just wondering how they are going to handle the gay aspect. Americans are very squeamish about gay men… Glee not included.

@bocoe. Well, it has most of the original production team working on it and it’s on pay cable. I think your fears are unfounded. It’s not a new show, it’s a continuation.

Huh. He’s not the first person I would’ve thought of for Torchwood guest stars, but I think he’ll actually fit in quite well. Particularly if his role lets him play a bit of bombast.

Let’s just hope he isn’t a mailman bent on personal gain, using a shaving cream can with a secret thermal insulated compartment with which he can steal genetic samples from Jack for the government.

No interest in an Americanized Torchwood. Will the Brits be continuing their (real) Torchwood? The American version of Being Human is dreadful unless one prefers pale imitation – don’t expect Torchwood to fare any better.

    @ EPS.

While there are more American cast members joining, this is not an Americanized version of Torchwood. Like Hickerson said, most of the original production team is there. This is a joint venture between the BBC and Starz, not the same thing as SyFy’s Being Human.

The casting of Wayne Knight is causing me to lose faith in the upcoming series…
