ABC could be looking to make a splash with some genre-related shows next year. The alphabet network has ordered a couple of supernatural and horror pilots.
The first is “Once Upon a Time” from writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.
The show focuses on a woman with a difficult past who moves to a small town in Maine, where the magic of fairy tales appears to be real.
At one time, Damon Lindelof was attached to the project, but he’s not any more.
ABC asked for a pilot of “The River”. The horror, which is being executive produced by “Paranormal Activity”‘s director Oren Peli, focuses on a family who travel to the Amazon to find their missing father.
ABC also decided to order an episode of “Revenge”, a re-imagining of the Alexandre Dumas novel “The Count Of Monte Cristo.” It focuses on a young woman as she moves to the Hamptons to get revenge on the people who destroyed her family.
The network is also working on a reboot of “Charlie’s Angels.”

Is it just me or does “Once Upon a Time” sound a bit like Haven?
Vox Arcana says
Uh oh – I’m always worried when I sense an “ooh, lets make it edgy by changing the main character to a girl,” and the Monte Cristo ‘feel’ kind of requires being period,, so I’m really pessimistic about the last one. But speaking of Haven, does anyone know if that’s coming back?

Another batch of shows ABC can spend money on then cancel before giving it a fair chance…
If they wanted supernatural, why not give The Gates a second chance…?
None of these sound very good to me.
Summer Brooks says
Yeah, I would have liked to have seen more from “The Gates”, too.

Once Upon A Time sounds more like Fables (Vertigo Comic). I’d rather see some of the cancelled shows given another chance.

Thought the same thing tensaibaka thought…it sounds like Haven…which I’m looking forward to. I think the network is trying to find something of Lost’s caliber. Be nice if they could.

Yes, it got renewed last year. It’ll be on in the summer.
