Cameron Says Nolan Should Have Got Oscar Nod

February 1, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

If you were upset that Christopher Nolan was left off the short list for a Best Director Oscar, you’re not alone.

Oscar-winner James Cameron thinks Nolan should have got a nod for best director for “Inception.”

“I loved Inception, and I wish that it had gotten more,” he tells the Hollywood Reporter “I wish Chris Nolan had gotten nominated for directing that film because I think that it’s the most astounding piece of film creation and direction of the year, hands down … but now it’s not even in the running. So I diverge from the Academy’s taste in a lot of ways.”

Cameron said it’s “an interesting race this year” because there are four or five really strong movies in the running.

“They are very different, and to me, it’s almost anyone’s guess,” he says. “I don’t see a lot of strong trends emerging. The media have tried to pick their winners, but then some of the Guild awards have warded that. I think it’s a very open race. It makes it exciting.”

But who does he think will win?

“I never publicize my picks,” he says. “Oh, I have picks, but I don’t tell.”

Hmmm I bet he’s still reeling over last year’s Academy Awards. The Hurt Locker’s victory was really one of the crazier things I’ve seen in a while

Am I the only one who’s noticed how James Cameron keeps coming out and agreeing with exactly what the Slice crew have been saying lately? “So-and-so movie had crap 3D! Inception deserved some Oscar love!” Next he’ll be bagging on Fox Leader and starting a new Smurf meme…
