NEW YORK – January 25, 2011 – Warehouse 13, Syfy’s most successful series ever, will begin production on its third season in Toronto beginning February 9, with key questions left hanging from the gripping season two finale. Has Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) left the Warehouse team for good? Have we seen the last of villainous H.G. Wells (Jaime Murray)?
Warehouse 13 will return with 13 new episodes beginning this summer.
During its second season, Warehouse 13 averaged 3.43 million total viewers, 1.51 million Adults 18-49, 1.80 million Adults 25-54 and a 2.4 household rating, based on DVR Live +7 data, making it the most watched Syfy series of 2010.
Warehouse 13 follows two Secret Service agents who find themselves abruptly transferred to a massive, top-secret storage facility in windswept South Dakota which houses every strange artifact, mysterious relic, fantastical object and preternatural souvenir ever collected by the U.S. government. The Warehouse’s caretaker Artie Nielsen (Saul Rubinek) charges Agents Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock) and Myka Bering (Kelly) with chasing down reports of supernatural and paranormal activity in search of new objects to cache at the Warehouse, as well as helping him to control the Warehouse itself. Allison Scagliotti plays Claudia Donovan, Artie’s apprentice.
Warehouse 13 received its first ever Emmy nomination in 2010 with a nod for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music by composer Ed Rogers.
What is the deal with a season of 13 episodes. What ever happened to 22 episodes like Stargate and several others had. SciFi has some shows with just 11 episodes, what is the deal, the advertisers pay the bills so it does not cost any body anything.
Syfy pisses me off!!!!!!!!!!
They don’t know a good thing when they have it, look at all the shows they keep cancelling,
Stargate Atlantis, awards left right and centre and they kill it in favour of sgu
Terminator the Sara Conner chronicles kicked ass and they left season 2 with the mother of all cliffhangers and they go and cancel season 3 Without any resolve
Sliders omg another cliffhanger ending
Firefly they squashed this series before they gave it a chance, millions of fans and a box office movie doesn’t that tell them anything
Sgu although I liked Atlantis way more I watched sgu but again low ratings and syfy scrapped it leaving yet another cliffhanger and now all stargate movies permanently shelved
Syfy doesn’t seam to understand that in these modern times people don’t sit at home waiting for shows to start anymore they set there sky+ and watch there programmes when they want hence why all show ratings are nosediving,
There’s a scene in scary movie where the serial killer is ranting why he is killing people and his reason’s are
( watching tv doesn’t make serial killers, cancelling tv shows does)
And I can see why.
Try the decaf, Andy 🙂
Syfy had nothing to do with the cancellations of Sarah Connor Chronicles, or Firefly, and technically not with Sliders, either. Coincidentally enough, all three of those show were originally aired on FOX, and all were originally cancelled by FOX!
Sliders was picked up by Scifi Channel for 2 more seasons after FOX cancelled it, but the cliffhanger ending was an attempt by the show runners to get a 6th season that backfired. Details at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sliders
You’re totally on point with SGU, though.
I, for one, am done. Syfy brings a wonderful show, Warehouse 13, back on the air with a token gay character. Here is the letter I just sent them:
editor’s note: content of letter deleted
I suppose you also used to write to the networks back in the 70s and 80s whenever “token” Blacks and Hispanics showed up on your TV screen, too?
Your gripe is with Syfy, not us. You don’t get to use our website as a forum to crow about your prejudices. Your letter to Syfy has no place here, and neither does your intolerance.
22 episodes? I want the days of 26-episode seasons back.
It’s not surprising that a new show would get a trial run of 13 episodes, but the most watched show ever on Syfy gets only 13? I was hoping they would extend the seasons with the success it’s had. I personally love Warehouse 13 and am glad to get any episodes but would always love to see more.
The economy hits everyone…even SyFy and its advertisers. 13 episodes is more than a lot of British hits get. Myka will be back but H.G…not so sure about her…maybe they will kill her off in a guest spot or something.
“What is the deal with a season of 13 episodes?”
Simple answer: It’s cable. The networks sometimes have 13-episodes seasons too, but it happens on cable far more often. There have been some shows with longer seasons on Syfy, though. “Sanctuary” is currently having a 20-episode season. “SGU” is also having a 20-episode season. And “Eureka” is having an 18-episode fourth season and apparently a 20-episode fifth season.
“What ever happened to 22 episodes like Stargate had?”
The only “Stargate” series to have 22-episode seasons was “Stargate SG-1” and that was seven years ago (Season 8 was the first to have 20 episodes and “Atlantis” and “SGU” have always had 20-episode seasons).
“I want the days of 26-episode seasons back.”
I think the last series I ever watched that had a 26-episode season was “Star Trek: Enterprise”. That would have been about eight years ago (Seasons 1 and 2 each had 26 episodes, Season 3 had 24 episodes, and Season 4 had 22 episodes).
Don’t care, will not watch it since it is on SyFy.
Dearly love Whse 13……….think the significance here is that the name and the episodes match. Only problem is you make us wait tooooooooooo long to see the new series……….Why can’t you keep up? Few tv programs are as good as this and so many goes unnoticed because of BAD Programming.
Eureka is a awesome show as well…………miss Stargate terribly and the new Survivor show from BBC…………..good stuff…….
Hurry and get 13 on the tv!! we miss it!!
So excited to see Warehouse 13 back in production again! It is by far the BEST SyFy has brought us since SG-1!! I have to agree with those that wish for a longer season! I can’t get enough!! For those of you who pan the entire network because your favorite show got cancelled, my sincere condolences for your loss, but the fact is, like any business, Television is a numbers game. If the show sells advertising and attracts viewers, it lives! If not …
I hate it when it happens!!!
My advice? Get over it! It’s just a freakin’ TV show! I feel far worse for the actors, writers, producers, directors, show runners, artists, prop makers, and cinematographers who are now unfortunately out of work, then I do for us fans!
Love Warehouse13, biggest surprise is that my husband does too, He usually leaves the room when I have SYFY on …
I agree with a lot of the viewers,13 episodes is a little short. Should be at least 18.
I can’t wait for the new season to start and find out what will happen to Myka, she is great in the show.
Ok fans of Whse 13, let’s clear this up…the number 13 comes from the fact that it is the 13th warehouse in existence, It has nothing to do with the number of episodes during a season! This fact is only mentioned on just about every episode, dah!
I checked out what you said about it being more than 13 episodes because I was thinking that surely you were right but you aren’t. The first season had 12 episodes, the second season had 13 episodes and the third season will also have 13 episodes. (according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warehouse_13) Which I really do not understand bc from I have read, its really popular. :/ Its nuts that we can only watch 13 weeks but the other 39… we have to wait. I will probably lose interest fast bc of it. Its also not even on Netflix which further irritates me. I suppose that they keep losing good shows bc they dont know how to keep fans attention.
I personally would like to see a 22 episode season of Warehouse 13. The show in my opion is a marvel to behold, the stories and characters are really super. I also would like to see that Myka was not written out, i really like her, she is down to earth (unlike Pete), She thinks things through (unlike Pete) and she has an effect on Artie as well.
I think the chemestry with the characters blend real wello togather.
the SyFy channel shuns any TV costing more than $11 to produce. It’s why they sacrificed Farscape at the altar of Stargate SG1. Terrible effing trade off. People actually like Warehouse 13, so they’ll cancel them early too and opt for some teeny bob vampire show.
I really love this series…. the story lines- plus the personalities of the male and female characters reminding me of Scully & Mulder from ‘The X-files’, a series I still miss. As a matter of fact, the Pete and Myka characters also remind me very much of Dr. Brennan and Agent Booth from ‘Bones’-another series I can’t do without. Does anyone else feel that way about those characters?
I LOVE your comment! Booth & Brennan = Myka & Pete <3 I am so happy someone else sees this!
Be thankful we’re getting 13 episodes. Look at how SciFi has handled Eureka.
Yeah, Eureka gets 0.5 seasons at a time. 4.5 premiers behind Warehouse 13. 4.5 really? Just give us a whole season. They even released the 4.0 DVD. SyFy needs to get its act cleaned up. Fire the CEO and bring in some new people who know what the words “Science Fiction” mean. It doesn’t mean wrestling or ghost hunters, that is NOT SciFi.
Gioia, I would like to comment on your observation. Yes, the male and female main characters of Warehouse 13 remind me of show Bones and also Eureka and even Fringe. I would like to encourage the writing team and the producers to try and put out more than 13 episodes, they definitely have a talent for coming up with edge of your seat can’t wait for the next show material. The ratings, the number of tuned in viewers will grow as long as they are not competing with something else in their time slot, otherwise the show will still garner it’s core and hold it’s first season numbers. The twist of tying in two different series should be followed up, especially with all the time space continuum play that has been introduced in both series. I am a hard core sic-fi fan and this series and the others I named earlier have really got my attention, and my goes off to the whole crew doing the show, I have truly enjoyed myself watching this series start off and hope it has many more seasons to go!
I love this show I just wish it ran during the fall season instead of the summer thats why i think the seasons are so short.
Love Warehouse 13! Also would like to see more episodes and a shorter gap between seasons. I’m worried with the long break many viewers may forget about it and find other things or shows to occupy their time. It seems like if you have a hit you should keep producing it, it’s almost like they are setting it up to fail with such a long break and then fewer episodes. Let’s hope it comes back strong and gets good publicity so everyone knows when it is on and watches it!
I also agree the lead roles are strikingly similar to other shows and Lattimer looks an awful lot like the male lead from Bones. The first time I saw Bones I had to do a double take and some internet searching to make sure it wasn’t the same person, very similar acting personalities. Also a good show with great lead role balance!
W13 is the type of show we have been missing for many years because of it’s broad appeal. Keep it going and stop canceling everything that starts to droop before it’s had a chance.
Networks need to think, “GLOBAL AUDIENCE” not one country before they start or cancel anything. There are fans of shows out here in the world that don’t even know a show was cancelled years before because idiots never released them at the same time as everywhere else or the tight ass execs in other countries didn’t want to pay the full price for a brand new show. The networks struggle because they are dinosaurs like the music recording execs. Wake up and smell the roses people the Internet is here to stay and is not a fad and gets bigger every second, USE IT!
I totally agree with you! New Zealand only gets these programmes after – if at all, that is – a couple of seasons have been released. I keep up to date on line and it’s a bit of a mission finding them. Liking Eureka [very weird that 4.0 deal] and Warehouse 13. Great viewing. Really hope they keep the same format and that the powers that be have the foresight to keep them going! And send them to us!!! LOLz
I can’t wait. I’ve been watching season 1 and 2 back to back to back to back just to get ready. Show is a blast. Allison S rocks! Maybe they will fillm more and make a longer season? This show has so many places it can go because plotlines can enconpass ALL of human history. Not to mention, Mrs F and the mystery of her age/past. Leena, too. I don’t think they’ve revealed all about her either. Just please, no bull shite romance between Myka and Pete. They are best the way they are. We still haven’t seen Pete’s fam or Myka’s sister. Would be nice to have a show run many seasons these days.
What? I love warehouse 13, but it is not the most successful show on syfail. Stargate made that network what it is n also went 10 seasons w two spin offs that syfail never gave a chance. But as soon as the cancel warehouse 13 I wont watch that stupid network. BBCA is ten times better. Down w syfail.
So the reason behind 13 episodes might be symbolism since the show is warehouse “13” however I definately agree I like 26 episodes per season. also myka better come back or there will be fans revolting from what I can tell.
13 episodes arises basically for two reasons.
1.) as pointed out above, budgetary. the big 4 (or 5 if you count CW) networks only have to compete directly with each other (or so they think) and so they can throw a lot more money at a project. But this is also why network shows may not make it past 6 episodes. When that kind of money is going around, you don’t want to risk a flop for an entire season run. by comparison, cable channels don’t have to be everything to every person., but conversely, they don’t have the same disproportionate advertising revenue either. so they can only afford smaller shows, for smaller runs. For instance, imagine a season of Eureka where every episode had the million dollar budget of Star Trek in its height?
2.) the other major reason for shortened seasons is that in fact, the major entertainment conglomerates own a large share of the cable networks. NBC/Universal controls Syfy, USA, and operates NatGeo and NatGeo wild. A&E/History is owned by and split by a conglomerate of NBC and Disney. And so on and So on. Now these conglomerates don’t want to compete with themselves. if they ran a 20, 22, or 26 episode run of a Eureka, or a Warehouse 13 or a Burn Notice, they’d be taking a chunk out of their own network primetime, and thus the ad revenue there on. And so, over the past decade or so, we’ve seen the rise of “the summer series” which promises viewers new TV material during the doldrums when network shows are on hiatus during the summer and in the dead of winter.
And so, between budgets and competing interests for networks, a lot of shows we’d like more of are rationed, in favour of the lowest common denominator pablum on the networks, and the economically insidious reality tv that costs pennies on the dollar to produce compared to theatrical TV.
With each episode costing a million or more having only 13 episodes makes good economic sense. If you are an exec would you like to bring your company $22.95/DVD containing 22 episodes with production upfront costs @ approx. $22 million or $22.95/DVD containing 13 episodes (cost approx. $13 million)? Do the math. You will sell about the same amount of DVD’s either way but at a significant profit with only 13 episodes of cost.
