I know I am in the minority here, but I really like the SyFy version better. I’ll say why. I never just sit and watch TV, don’t have time for that! I multi task (yes, it’s terrible) so I only give the TV 50% or less of my full attention. The BBC version just seemed overly complicated to me. I watched the first episode which really made no sense (I did come in late) and then I just thought it was a bit…boring? I wanted to see my vampire and werewolf action! The ads for tis show were much better than the show itself. The SYFY version does move a bit slower, but like I said, good for me. I liked the back story that started from the beginning instead of as story filler after the fact. I liked it.

I think part of the problem for some, with the BBC version is they never showed the pilot episode again. When they started the actual series. The pilot was shown about a year ahead of the Series and I think they did not re-air it because a different actor’s Played the Vampire and Ghost. But after seeing the American version it pretty much goes the same. I think the Werewolf in American Version is better than the Vampire. Which is sad as the Vampire should be a better actor. He has allot of storyline ahead of him

I have not seen either one, but as an American, my guess is that the American version sucks and has been dumbed down and “hollywooded” up. All American remakes of foreign television and films suck. Not a single one has ever been better than the original. And I say this as an American myself.
Robin says
I’ve only seen the first episode of each, and so far I have to admit that I liked the American version better. Though neither has made it onto my watch-it-live-and-buy-the-DVDs list yet.
@Conni — That’s really interesting. If the pilot was the first episode shown on BBC America, I may have to go back and give the rest of the original series another try. I found the first episode kind of unsatisfying, but if they reworked it for series it might fare better.

While I like the original British version the best (at the moment), I watched the first episode of the Americanized show and have to say it has real potential and I will certainly give it a try for more episodes. The actors chosen for the main roles in the USA show fit their parts well.
Audrey says
i LOVE the british version. But i think it’s unfair asking us which we prefer with only ONE episode of the american one having been seen.
i do agree.. the US version one is good, so i will be watching it.

So far I like the Brithish Version Actors better but since we’ve only had one episode that may change. I am anxious to see the American spin but I must admit that I’ve never preferred an American remake of a British show or movie.
Eric says
I saw the American version and it is better than I feared. The British is tight and packed with information to the point of busting at the seams. The American one is slower and they have to spell out everything to the viewer and has to add extra characters and so on.
Artemis says
Wow, so it seems people have a problem with the complexity of the British version. Translation: I’m just to dumb and/or lazy to figure out what’s happening. I’m not going to hate on the American version, but hating the original just because you prefer to be spoon fed by the American version is just stupid.
Also, the British version was fun to watch. When I finished the American version I realized that I’d forced myself through it just to see what it was like. Not fun.
I’ll stick with the British version. We don’t actualy need a remake anyway. Not only is the original really good, but it’s still on!!
Kforce says
This is the best thing I have heard. You said it best. People are too lazy or dumb to take the time to try to comprehend anything that takes more than 5 minutes. The UK version is the best and I just cannot get into the U.S. version.

Haven’t seen the Brit version, but I like the US version. It’s not fantastic, but it has potential. I admit that it’s more interesting to me than Stargate Universe ever was, and I have been a big fan of Stargate for a decade.

I’m a big fan of the British version and am really excited that BBC America is going to show series 3 of that version next month rather than 6 months or so like they did with series 2.
That said, I’ve seen the first 2 episodes of the American version, and my wife and I both agree that it’s not bad at all. The question we both have though is it going to be sufficiently different from the original British version to keep us watching it. I don’t want to watch a faithful re-telling of the original when I’ve watched the original twice now. I’ve got too much other stuff to watch.
There have been some changes in the American version, but I really don’t think it’s sufficiently different enough to warrant sticking with it especially with series 3 of the original coming very soon on BBC America. But I’ll give it another couple of weeks before making a final decision.

OMG! Last night I watched the return of BH on BBC America and this show only gets better with each new episode. The pergatory theme was heart-wrenching and tremendous dramatic television.

@anacronite….while I agree that american remakes of film and TV are most times not as good as original, the american version of “The Office” was widely more popular than the british version. I myself found them to be complete equals. Neither was funnier than the other IMO.
Lambo says
Well, when I consider past British Shows that were remade in America. Two come off the top of my mind. The British versions of “The Office” and “Coupling” were great shows in the UK. The American version of “The Office’ did very well while the American “Coupling” was a disaster. (Which is sad, because I do love Stephen Moffat’s writing. [Yay, more Doctor Who soon!] The UK version of “Coupling” is much superior show compared to “Friends” in my own opinion.)
Wasn’t sure what to think when I heard an American “Being Human” was coming. I was a bit nervous about SyFy doing it. However, I am quite pleased with the show and enjoying it. For those who seem to like the pacing of the new show better. Keep in mind, the writers already had one opportunity to see what they did and had some time to reconsider a few things they may thought not work as well the first go around.
Brit scifi says
Why do Americans have to make “their” version of everything? The beauty of the british is the black humour. You can’t polish it and make it the American perfect. I love watching true blood but there is a reality and everydayness to the british scifi that I love. Everyone has everyday human flaws even though they are superhuman. I just love the british version!!!
Erin says
As an American who grew up on British TV, I’d normally refuse to watch remakes (such as Skins) on pure principal(and that we tend to f*ck everything up..). But with that being said, I’ve surprised myself, and actually like the American version better. The characters and actors have a better chemistry together and the drama and emotion doesn’t feel as forced as it was in the original UK version.
Stephanie says
The American is waaay better! You get to understand the character and the situation better. The UK suck so bad! Its all crammed up in episode 1 and doesn’t explain much. American one is more realistic than the UK. Why would they kill off the original actors and replace them in UK? That’s just dumb.
Lucy says
I literally just started watching Being Human the BBC version, I didn’t even know an American version existed until I ran across it on Netflix… I’ll wait to watch it after I finish the BBC version. I love BBC shows so even after I watch the American Version, I will feel the same.
