“Fringe” Will Delve Into Walternate’s Device

January 19, 2011 By Mike Hickerson Leave a Comment

As “Fringe” gets ready to return Friday evening, a lot of questions are still lingering from the first half of season three.

One of the biggest is what is the nature of the device that Walternate has developed.

Producer J.J. Abrams says that we will get answers about the device in the second half of the season.

“There is an enormous focus on how [the machine] can be activated and what it takes to do that,” Abrams told TV Guide. “[We focus on] how it can be finished, and if it is, what are the implications.”

Series star Jasika Nicole (Astrid Farnsworth) added that the choice between worlds is “going to rest on [the] shoulders” of Walternate’s son Peter (Joshua Jackson).

“Peter is the only person who can power that machine,” she explained. “That’s really integral into which universe is going to survive.”

“Fringe” returns Friday night at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
