New “Batman,” “Superman” Movies Will Be Separate Universes

January 6, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

As DC and Warner Brothers begin to ramp up their big-screen versions of some of the their most popular characters, many fans may be wondering if the universe shown on screen will be a shared one like the Marvel Studios movies.

The answer, at least when it comes to DC’s two biggest heroes, is no.  At least for now.

According to Charles Roven, the producer of the next Superman and Batman movies, the answer is no.

“That may be in somebody’s mind, but right now the Batman lives in his world and the Superman lives in his world. Those stories are those stories, and we haven’t thought beyond each individual picture,” he says.

That doesn’t mean that other DC projects won’t be in the same universe. But fans hoping for a mention or a cameo by Superman or Batman in the upcoming slate of DC pictures may be disappointed. We’ve already reported that a potential cameo by Tom Welling in this summer’s “Gleen Lantern” never made it into the final draft of the script.

So the closest we’re going to get is the sight gag in “I am Legend”. Marvel has the right idea with the shared universe. What’s wrong with DC doing it?

@Gerald There’s a moment in the new IAL movie where you see a poster for a World Finest movie.
